What will this week's mailbag bring?

After his major factual blunder last week (for which SI took the coward's way out and merely removed all mention of it), what will Wertheim do in this week's bag with regards to that mistake?

The choices are:

1. Coward's way out; pretends it never happened.

2. Briefly touches on it, mentioning the mistake and saying he had it confused with Connors/Navratilova. (Which would also be incorrect, as Connors didn't give up the alleys either.)

3. Acknowledges mistake, and says he "may" have underestimated the impact of the event. Perhaps gives some cursory tribute which only scratches the surface of what it really meant.

4. Acknowledges mistake, and gives fairly lengthy commentary that captures most of the significance of the event.

5. Acknowledges mistake, and that he has made numerous other factual errors over the years which has has never owned up to. Apologizes for these factual mistakes, and his frequent double standards (always to the detriment of the women). Atones by impaling himself with a ritual sword.

What was the error in the last mailbag Brian? I haven't read them in a while and I haven't the faintest of what you're referring to...

though having Jon commit harakiri would be quite the internet trick

It was when he said Bobby Riggs played Billie Jean King under a series of handicaps, claiming Riggs got only one serve, and saying King got to hit into the doubles alleys. This after he said he recently saw it again!

Ouch

Proud to be an American
Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

Maybe he has also recently seen the memorable 1992 RG final when Steffi Graf defeated Natasha Zvereva 6-0 6-0.

The King-Riggs section has been deleted from last week's mailbag...then he went on vacation.

i completely agree with this. yes Jon made a mistake. a bad one. but any writer who cares enuf about tennis to keep writing about it is someone i hope SI decides to keep. tennis as a sport is suffering enuf as it is to lose one of its greatest supporters. no matter what.
