Player Eligibility - Fed Cup Participation
Be part of the final nomination of Fed Cup team at the time of the draw and is present at the tie, on a minimum of three occasions within the 4-year Olympics cycle. One of the three occasions must occur in either 2015 or 2016.
...unless!
a. You have played Fed Cup for minimum of 20 weeks.
b. Your nation is in the zonal round robin format for 3-4 years within the Olympics cycle.
c. You have a long-term injury for a minimum of 6 months.
d. You are a newcomer to Fed Cup where your previous rankings were not good enough for your nation.
e. Your nation had too many highly-ranked profile players where you were not given the opportunity to be nominated.
If any of the above five scenarios fits for a player, then the player will only need two, rather than three occasions. However, one of the two still must occur in 2015 or 2016. In the case of c, d and e, special cases may be granted solely under the ITF's discretion.
- In good standing with your nation's tennis association
A player must be nominated by their NOC for Olympics participation to be eligible.
Race - After Nurnberg/Strasbourg
- Performed some checks and hopefully it's right. This will be the final update. I will post WTA official ranking for results after Roland Garros.

There are currently still five slams left to have a chance to qualify via this option, where based this list will pretty much guarantee Victoria Azarenka and Samantha Stosur in to the Olympics in Rio because their respective compatriots will not take up 4 NOC spots as of current ranking projections (bar injury).
Are you going to weekly post the Olympic rankings starting June 6? I was thinking about doing this. Also, I have a question: Which edition of Roland Garros will count towards the race, 2015 or 2016? Apparently, it should be 2015 Roland Garros.

The Brazilian automatically get a WC for the mixed doubles and another South American country will get one as well?
It will be interesting to see who gets a spot in the USA squad. There can't be no more than different six players for all three draws.
What in the world will the USTA do with the likes of Kops-Jones, Spears and Mattek-Sands?
Venus, Serena and Keys are pretty much guaranted. Only three spots left to maximize medal chances.

Keys is not guaranteed. Her 2015 OZ SF will not be on her ranking. And at this rate, she needs more results to back up her ranking. Sloane or Lepchenko could easily get ahead of her.
Last time the cut off for race was around 56 or 58, with Watson alting at the end. Erakovic may have a chance for ITF placement if no one from NZL enters Olympics in tennis in both singles and doubles discipline and her ranking needs to be higher than other players who also qualify under that criteria. I will compile a list of possible candidates.
Even if she maintains it's unlikely she will qualify via doubles because Olympics has a max number of entries and most doubles player will come from singles entry bar the top 10. If none of the doubles player overlaps with singles then it's going to be barely enough, 86-64-20 = 2.

If we use current ranking this is pretty much what we will see in the list. I used top 60 because there is obviously going to be some countries with more than 4 in the Top 60, so there will be duplicates. Again, the race has not yet started, this is a projection based on current rankings.
I'm a bit confused. I suppose NOC means National Olympic Committee. So players outside of top 60 who are the first on the NOC list can theoretically still qualify - doesn't that mean that at this moment, for Belgium, Flipkens should also be on that list? Or did I miss something?
I don't know the specific qualifying rules in Belgium. I've looked for them, but can't find them.

Universality (max two (2) quota places) - if any places remain, these will be allocated to the next best ranked player on the international singles rankings of 6 June 2016 from an NOC that has no representation in that singles event.
So, there's a limit of 2 places and there are players from NOCs without representation ahead of her.
Race - Updated based on Ranking after Madrid, but do note these are projections. Not actual race...

Really interesting who will be 6th in Russian Team. Maybe Kudryavtseva. And she with Pavs will play doubles. Oh.. Alla didn't play Fed Cup ties..
Or only 5 players. And Sveta with Nastia will play doubles.

Possibly there will be plenty of Fed-cup action net year once Sharapova fufils her Olympic obligations It would be good to see Alla get to the Olympics. The doubles might be more likely to be Makarov and Vasnina though given Maria Svetlana and Pavs would be in the singles. I guess actually Alla would qualify as 6th Russian if her doubles ranking was high enough.

I don't think they will get an extra slot from ITF besides Vesnina, unless the Russians got top 10 and elected to add someone else not already qualified in signles. They will probably opt for Kuznetsova/Pavlyuchenkova pair to not kill Makarova/Vesnina pair.
