Exclamation Please ... some respect

Do respect the new USopen champ!!! I know that Venus and Serena were great favo's for the title and they are (some) of the best players on the tour but the girl who wins the title did beat all the other players and deserves the title. (Are Steffi's wins less worth because of the absence of Monica? don't think so). It's really sad that those 2 won't play because, if you like it or not, they bring some great tennis on tour

At this point I don't care if it is Justine (I do hope ), Kim, Linds, Cap, ... or a new slamwinner. They can't help it that Serena and Venus pulled out and did bring the best tennis those two weeks!

Thx already

Roland Garros '03,'05,'06,'07
US Open '03,'07 / Australian Open '04
Olympic Gold '04 /
YEC Madrid '06,'07
41 titles

Shouldn't Kim be in the section "new slamwinner"? J/k

Well said!

I will respect the new winner. Because if my favorite, Venus had won, without Serena in the draw, people would have said she won only because Serena was not in the draw and I would be offended. Unfortunately, injuries are about of sports. I believe that winninng a championship is based on skills, and some luck

i think either clijsters or henin-hardenne will win but it would be so nice if we had a surprise winner.

thanks for the thread, fleemke²!

I absolutely agree. There should not be any asteriks by the name of the winner. That is ridiculous. Vee and Ree are wonderful, but the sport does not fall apart if they are not playing.

Personally, I am rooting for Jennifer. I really think she has a shot here.

A definite big hand for this post! (But I can only respect Fleemke when I know why her name is squared)!

I agree 100%!!! In reality, perfect field at a Slam is almost impossible, as there will always be some top player missing, playing injured or whatever. The one who wins it deserves it the most. It's not her fault the other players didn't play or weren't at their best.
