If Clijsters Loses before the Semi-Finals...

If Clijsters loses before the semi-finals Chanda Rubin is the 2003 US Open Champion. Here is why I think so...

Rubin has an easy draw to the Quater-Finals and the way I saw her hitting at the Arthur Ashe Kids Day she is in top form.

When she faces Lindsay or most likely Lindsay it will be a win for Rubin because Lindsay is not 100% right now with her injury and maybe Lindsay might lose before the Q-F's! Not to offend any Lindsay fans. I believe that if Lindsay was 100% it would be a tough battle.

Next it would be either Mauresmo or Clijsters if Mauresmo or Clijsters make it that far. Clijsters has a pretty hard draw and Mauresmo still isn't up to par. Giving Rubin a chance to dominate.

If Mauresmo advances to the Semi's Rubin will advance to the Final's because last time Rubin and Mauresmo faced off at the Nasdaq-100 Open (when Mauresmo was healthy) Rubin wooped her butt. If Clijsters advances WHO KNOWS what will happen I believe if Rubin gets to the Semi's she'll have so much confidence that she'll beat Clijsters in 3 tight sets!

Now if Rubin advances to the final the real question is...who will be her opponent. Its as easy as this...Henin-Hardenne or Capriati. Either way Rubin will win because Rubin defeated Capriati earlier this year in a thriller while she KILLED Henin-Hardenne at the Nasdaq-100 Open. If it is Capriati-Rubin it will be a more exciting final!

So this is how I'll wrap it up....

Rubin VS. Capriati

or

Rubin VS. Henin-Hardenne

WINNER = Rubin either way!

GO RUBIN~!~!!~

Please, everytime Chanda is presented with an easy draw at the slams, she usually falters and loses to someone she has no business losing to.

If Kim doesn't win it, Chanda would be my second preference.

You have to answer for Santino, Carlo.

i love chanda, and want her to win more than anyone (even my favourite patty), but you're concentrating too much on the ifs and what happened last time they played. this is a new tournament, chanda has to prove she is fit, she has to beat two players she has ordinary records against to advance to the final and then you have to remember that although capriati may have lost the last time they played, she thumped chands in miami on hardcourt.

no doubt chanda can make waves at this tournament, but i think we're better served following the old cliche of taking it a match at a time.

In 1997, Chanda Rubin played the 1st match of the US Open on Ashe court. She came in injured. She got owned by a fat Tanasugarn. History may repeat itself.

Chanda's not getting by Lindsay anyway. Thanks.

well that's a BIG if and IF mauresmo beats kim, that means mauresmo is in red hot form, so she'd beat Rubin.
Obviously you want Kim to lose before the semis as you think honestly kim would beat Rubin, so i say if someone and whoever it is beats Kim then they will beat rubin

Lindsay will be hampered with injury most likely, which could allow Chanda to move her around.

i agree it's a big leap to say good form there = chanda winning the title, but i think that he/she was saying that because it's the only time anyone seen chanda hit since earlier in the summer.

good call about ys' comment - although now that i think about it i do think that myriam could challenge chanda (if they both get there).

btw fingon do you know if patty and babsi are playing doubles together? and if not who they are playing with?

no, I don't know if they are playing together. They were going to in Toronto so I assume they will here now that they are both playing, but I am not sure.
