Go on with that weak serve Martina...

Hingis was tied at 3-3 in the opening set when realising she needed to start "concentrating more" in order to take control of the match. That she did in emphatic style with three aces, gaining the crucial break and then serving out the set 6-3.

Yeah Marti, you better keep this serve babe!

All the best to Anastasia Myskina, Elena Bovina and Svetlana Kuznetsova!
Watch out: Myriam Casanova, Maria Kirilenko and Maria Sharapova!

I think that was a fluke. Hingis is not known for serving aces. Don't get too happy over this. Was it Pam Shriver who said that Hingis couldn't get a speeding ticket with her serve?

Hingis' serve was an improvement throughout Oz (and the 1st and 2nd sets of the final).

Did you see how Jen was way below 50% of points won on Martina's 2nd serve??? I expected Jen to go to town on the 2nd serve.

But Bright Red I agree, it's hard to get too excited when you think about what Serena, Venus and Lindsay (to name 3) would do if they got their hands on it. In fact Even someone like Barbara Rittner can wallop the hell out of Marti's 2nd serve - and that's saying something.

"Mentally prepare? Why? When you plan something it never works. It's simple: get in, drive car, see what happens."

Her serve will probably never be the best of the circuit, but hey it's got better than it was!!

What would you say if we could make
something amazing

Puhleez! Martina has served up to 107 mph and regularly in the 90s. I would like to see Pam drive that fast where I live. She has probably been watching to much Nascar (which is the world's stupidest sport).

Oh but then she would be too busy watching the Raiders.

Here is a sample of Pam Shriver's commentary "Oh wow did you see that weak second serve from Martina. Venus would have crushed that now even though she is winning 75% of her second serves and her opponent (any top player) is winning only 40% of her second serves, it is clear that Martina does not hurt you on the return but anyway Venus or Serena would have crushed that second serve. Wow did you catch that great football game where my home state of Maryland won. I will bet you that Venus is from maryland too. I think we ought to move the Championships back to the good old USA like maybe Maryland. Anyway back to the match it looks like Venus is winning, oops I mean Martina not Martina the original though...."

It is so much better than it was - so I say well done, but don't stop there. She just seems to time it better, and the swing is now almost continuous. Go girl

7 aces!!!!!!!!! I suppose that that is a really fast surface so that helps out but Tammy is very quick in her reactions so normally she would at least get a racquet on it. I think Martina must have been placing them in the corners and on the lines.

Placement rather than speed is usually the key for Martina's aces. And that's all tied in with confidence. Despite the Aus final loss, I think her confidence is riding pretty high at the moment...

2001 was a bad year for Hingis and she didnt do herself any justice and her serve looked terrible.

It has definitely improved this year, but her service speed goes up when her confidence does. With Martina its all mental and when she does 'concentrate' she is capable of getting herself out of anything.

Go tina!
soon you will can be banging up there with the big babes
