Is Henin now the "chosen one"

To challenge the Williams sisters??? In 2002 it was Capriati and Davenport was hopeful to return to championship form, but neither beat either Williams sister in 2002. Since the Year End Championships 2002 it has been Clijsters, but she hasn't beaten a Williams sister since then. Now the torch seems to have been passed to Justine Henin since after the French Open. She is already 0-1. Will she get that elusive win after being crowned the "chosen one" and who will be the next "chosen one" to step forward?

I'm sorry, but beating venus and serena REALLY isn't such a big deal.

Everyone's just trying to do their thing on the court. No one's going to go into the match thinking "I'm the chosen one, and only I alone can challenge the Williams sisters"

A single flow'r he sent me, since we met./All tenderly his messenger he chose;
Deep-hearted, pure, with scented dew still wet - One perfect rose.
I knew the language of the floweret;/'My fragile leaves,' it said, 'his heart enclose.'
Love long has taken for his amulet/One perfect rose.
Why is it no one ever sent me yet/One perfect limousine, do you suppose?
Ah no, it's always just my luck to get/One perfect rose.

I mean by the media and tennis fans in general. I think she is by media because NBC commentators already mentioned it at Wimbledon. Alot of people also think Justine will beat Venus at the US Open.

I believe that if anything, being the "chosen one" will only help justine. We've seen a lot of people crack under the pressure, but justine just seems to do even better with it.

Justine is almost there already. She just needs to get over her difficulties with playing Venus. I mean the matches used to be much closer than they are now. But again, they haven't met since January, so anything could happen at USO.

Who's the next "chosen one"? I don't know. The media's always been rather fickle.

wasn't there a topic like this just after Charleston?
"Will Justine be the next 'chosen one'?" or something like that. Whoever started that thread was pretty far-seeing.

I'm not going to say that Justine IS going to beat Venus but she has a chance, she's playing good and improved a lot As long as she tried her best to beat her I'm happy, if Venus (or anybody else) is better in a particular match .. no prob for me

Just don't underestimate the Justine ... you'll get sorry for it

And off course the press is going to put some pressure (or trying to) on Kim and Justine but they don't play the matches The press likes rivalry, fights, ...

Roland Garros '03,'05,'06,'07
US Open '03,'07 / Australian Open '04
Olympic Gold '04 /
YEC Madrid '06,'07
41 titles

I think that Justine has improved her game since last year, but I don't think she should be given too much credit for challenging the true top players. I personally think she should have lost the last 2 matches against Elena Dementieva. If Elena had beaten her at Acura, I don't think Justine would have been as focused for the Toronto matches. I think that Elena D can and will beat Justine again and that will show everyone that Justine will still need to get better to be a true challenge to the true top players......Just my opinion as I am a Dementieva fan.

Well wtaworld sorry to say but 'should won' doesn't count anymore ... Kim should have won against Serena @ tha AO but she couldn't ... The one who makes the last point wins the match. Dementieva gave Justine a hard time, all respect for that, but thethird set was going pretty easy to Justine so that says a lot

Serena and Venus have already been dethroned. After the US Open, Justine & Kim will be no.1 and no.2. The real question is, will Serena & Venus be the "chosen ones" to challenge the belgians?

Kim is still my chosen one.

You have to answer for Santino, Carlo.

For whatever reason, it still seems to be Kim that gets branded the "chosen one" by the media. I think Justine's wins over Serena have been dismissed as they were on clay. Which is, in a sense, fair enough.

We will see how long the Belgians can last on the throne! After they all-Belgian final, what followed?! Yeah....a whipping by Serena and a gutsy win by Venus. At least the sisters have mantained FOUR STRAIGHTH times. meeting in the grand slam finals that is.
