Free US open events

From the NY Post:

"New for 2003, the doors to the USTA National Tennis Center will open for tennis fans on Sunday, Aug. 24, for a free "Open Practice." Fans will be able to watch the game's biggest stars, including hot newcomers Maria Sharapova and Ashley Harkleroad, the Belgian waffles Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin-Hardenne, and men's contenders Roger Federer and Lleyton Hewitt warm up for the real deal.

If that's not enough, Kournikova, Lindsay Davenport, Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova will headline the second annual Tennis Magazine Grand Slam, taking place on Friday from Grand Central Terminal's Vanderbilt Hall. New Yorkers will have the opportunity to meet, interact with and receive tips from the stars. There will be matches, tennis activities and clinics held on a custom-built tennis court with prizes and giveaways. The event is free and runs from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m."

Question

Lindsay is playing Pilot Pen this week. How can she be in two places at the same time?

New Haven is not that far from NYC. Maybe she'll make a quick appearance. Or she committed to this before she decided to play in New Haven?

Friday is the SF in Pilot Pen. Lindsay can't make both.

Anyway, for the "practice" on the grounds, I thought the Open was always free access for the days preceeding the opening Monday. At least I hope so cause I was planning on going next Saturday. Anone know?
