Now that it´s clear and obvious that the end is near for Monica Seles the question rises: How will she be remembered in history?! As one of the great champions or as a poor victim?!
She have done so much for the woman tennis, I am sure she will be remembered as a women who started to hit the ball hard and more and more younger players now plays with both hands.
SO LIKE A BIG CHAMPION.
SHE IS STILL PLAYING TENNIS SO SHE WILL DO EVEN MORE FOR TENNIS.
i think she will be remembered more for the COMEBACK than for her being stabbed. she is a courageous, one-of-a-kind champion. she won't be a hall of famer because of pity... she has enough qualifications in a matter of 3 years to get 3 players inducted.
Only reason I implied poor victim, is because after her comeback from the stabbing she wasn´ t the same player and perhaps people would pitty her for that.
some ppl will remember her as the poor little girl who was kickin ass who got stabbed. but as long as they remember WHY she was stabbed, they will know she is an all time great and a true pioneer in the highest profile women's sport on the planet.
I think people should remember Monica as an innocent victim, rather than a poor victim. Monica would probably not want our pity, even though I am sure we do all feel sorry for her. Monica is a legend and her amazing 1990-1993 will be remembered but she will always be connected to the stabbing and how she was robbed of fulfilling her potential. But her fans will always have the positives to remember her by
i don't want to think that monica is done with her tennis. but when she finally retire, i will always remember her as the one who paved the way for power hitters like the williams sisters, etc. she's the one who introduced the power in tennis with her unorthodox two-handed in both sides. i don't want to remember her as the girl who got stabbed but i'll remember her as the great champion who has a will to fight and the courage that no other player can match. keep on fighting, monica! you are a very strong girl. she's always a grace under pressure. never say die attitude.
As a great champion, who had part of her career stolen away by crazed maniac. More importantly she will be remembered as having alot of heart and determination to return to tennis after such adversity.
Only reason I implied poor victim, is because after her comeback from the stabbing she wasn´ t the same player and perhaps people would pitty her for that.
She actually could have been a much better player. She struck the ball harder had a better serve was/is developing a one handed forehand, it's her fitness/or lack thereof that has held her back from achieving even greater results.
as a player who got ruined when on top and fought herself back
I think saying she will be remembered as "the victim" innocent or poor doesn't give her justice since she came back. she could also have stayed in her room forever and she didn't.
