surprising stat

somebody said in another thread that patty schnyder wasn't playing well compared to last year, and although i think she is playing pretty much the same way she always does, i was thinking about her winning zurich and making the final of charlseton and i came to the conclusion that only serena and henin achieved the same or bettered this feat in 2002. going from my head with no stats serena won miami and rome and henin got berlin and made the rome final.

i think i'm right in saying that venus and clijsters didn't win a tier I and i can't think of anyone else who made two finals and won one as well. to me it just indicates how erractic patty is, because after all that she still was ranked only 15 in the world and only made one or two other semis (in lower tournaments) if memory serves me correctly. things could have been really different this year if she didn't lose focus against justine at RG.

to me she holds sway in terms of the player with greatest extremes in her performances. majoli may be up there to, but she only comes back every 5 years with a big performance and she hasn't really taken massive scalps either.

Hi Switz, I think your concerning what I had stated, From her results last year, and comparing them to this year, shes is of equality this year, Erratic Natured play that where so used to seeing from her. Last year 2 Big Breakthroughs, was getting to the final in Charleston, and winning in Zurich, as apposed from this year, where the 4th Round at the French Open is probably considered to be her "greatest achievment" this year, pushing the eventual winner Justine to 3 Sets. I wouldn't consider Helsinki something memorable, just barley scraping through the second round, Maja Matevzic letting her away with a free practice session, and falling to eventual champion Pistolesi, wasn't exactly a consistent effort to get where she got in Helsinki.

It does show how Erratic and Inconsistent Patty can be, 4th round at the Aussie (or was it third) and the 4th Round at the French Open, two major Tournaments, and doing ok in, and then the bad run leading up top Roland Garros, Playing in Teir IV and Teir III and loosing in the first rounds. Just shows from Doing well in GrandSlams, then to doing absolutley horribly in some rinky-dink tournament does make you realise that her Inconsistency and Erratic Nature is one of her let downs situated in her game. Still it shows what immence talent that she beholds, just a shame that we only catch a glimpse of it, Like once in a Blue Moon.

Actually you made me think of something, Have you ever noticed how Patty seems to do well, play the game we like to see in the Bigger Tournaments, (count Wimbledon out) and that she plays her most horribly or inconsistent at smaller Tournaments? Just made me wonder, If Patty should skip Helsinki and all her little tournaments she plays every year and start looking at playing at bigger more advertised tournaments, where the draw is tougher. Just seems that when shes playing the top girls she plays better and far more consistent, They might give her some motivation, it's well possible when you have to be your best when playing the likes of Henin, Capriati, Mauresmo etc etc. hmm a point to consider aswell I geuss.
