How impressive! What is about the US that enables us to perform at such a high level in tennis? We are one of the most populous countries on the planet, albeit not the most populous (China, India). We're also one of the richest countries in the world per capita, but not the only rich country (see Japan, and many European countries). Maybe it is the combination of the two also combined with the spirit of individualism that pervades American society. Hmmm......or maybe it's just luck.

I'm just so proud to be an American.

This just demonstrates why I'm so confused as to why the American media complains there aren't enough American starts in tennis for it to be popular in the US

Perhaps if they mean ONLY mens tennis, but they tend to ignore the fact that for the moment at least, American women are dominating women's tennis.

Yet unfortunately people seem to be so consumed by football, hockey, etc. that they could care less.
