It's Venus and Martina and Jenn and Justine and Lindsay and Monica and Kim and Serena that keep new fans coming back to tennis. But Anna brings a huge amount of attention to the game. I have plenty of (male) freinds who don't know jack about the WTA, but they know Anna. And if they tune in to watch Anna, they see her opponent too.
True, but the problem is twofold. First, Anna's off the court activities are not tennis related and are solely to sell her as a sex symbol. Case in point, her appearance in Enrique's new video. While I don't have a problem with any player have off the court activities, Anna's do very little to help her with her image as a model with a tennis racket. No, it is not Anna's fault that she is beautiful, but it is Anna's fault that she continues to use that beauty to make money without using those funds to continue to improve as a tennis player. She does not have a coach or trainer. Why? It is not because of money problems that is for sure. I don't blame her parents anymore, but I do blame Anna. She is nearly 21 years old and has been an adult for nearly three years. Anna is old enough to make her own decisions and so far, she has not made the right ones regarding her tennis career.
Yes, Anna does bring a lot of attention from males to the tennis court, which also brings attention to the game and her opponent. However, when Anna loses early, most of those fans leave with her. In addition, it hardly helps the game of tennis that one of its most famous assets cannot even win one tournament. What does that say about the game?
I'm not trying to pick on Anna here. She is lovely and very talented @ her sport. However, she really needs to make some changes before I will take her seriously as a player again.
