2003 ESPY Awards - Vote for Best Female and Male

I don't know if anyone's posted the nominees for the ESPY tennis awards. They came out yesterday. Here's the link to the website where you can vote for who you want to win:

http://espn.go.com/espy2003/index.html

The nominees are:

Best Female Tennis Player

Jennifer Capriati
Credentials: Finished season ranked third in world rankings.

Past ESPY's: 2002 Best Comeback Athlete.

Kim Clijsters
Credentials: Won year-end WTA Championship tournament, beating Venus and Serena Williams.

Past ESPY's: none

Serena Williams
Credentials: Won 2002 French Open, U.S. Open and Wimbledon singles titles, plus 2003 Australian Open.

Past ESPY's: none

Venus Williams
Credentials: Made finals of four straight Grand Slams.

Past ESPY's: 2001 and '02 Best Women's Tennis Player.

Best Male Tennis Player:

Andre Agassi
Credentials: Won 2003 Australian Open.

Past ESPY's: 2000 Best Men's Tennis Player.

Juan Carlos Ferrero
Credentials: Won 2003 French Open.

Past ESPY's: none

Lleyton Hewitt
Credentials: Won 2002 Wimbledon and finished #1 in world rankings for second straight year.

Past ESPY's: 2002 Best Men's Tennis Player.

Pete Sampras
Credentials: Won 2002 U. S. Open.

Past ESPY's: 1994, '95, '96, '97, '98, '99, and 2001 Best Men's Tennis Player.

Predictions by Dan Sanoff:

CATEGORY: BEST FEMALE TENNIS PLAYER
Early Favorite: Serena Williams. French fans don't know anything.
Sleeper: Kim Clijsters. Outlasted Serena, Venus and Jenny at French Open.
Buzz on the Rest: Jennifer Capriati (Still popular, but not having a Williams-type year); Venus Williams (Takes backseat to Serena)

CATEGORY: BEST MALE TENNIS PLAYER
Early Favorite: Pete Sampras. He's got the retirement-sentimental thing going.
Sleeper: Andre Agassi. If not Pete, then his arch-rival.
Buzz on the Rest: Juan Carlos Ferrero (French Open pub great, but can he compete in votes, not on clay?); Lleyton Hewitt (Bad boy's rep won't help him here)

Well, I must say they're really going out on a limb with that choice of players, aren't they? But tennistically, Serena and Agassi should rightfully scoop up the awards.

Kim and Venus well okay I can understand them being on there! but jenn? she has not won a tournament in forever whereas another Belgian that they left off has won ROLAND GARROS and two tier 1's, two tier II's and beaten Jenn on hard courts.

....This is fucked up, fucked up....

This is your blind spot, blind spot.
It should be obvious, but it's not.

You just crush yourself and walk away
I don't care what the future holds
Cause I'm right here in your arms today
With your fingers you can touch me

I'll be your black swan, black swan
I'm for spare parts, broken up.

Tennistically, eh? Been reading some Ferrero interviews there, Hendouble?

Of course Serena should win, and the mens should really only between Hewitt and Andre, with the old guy just edging Hewitt out.

I thought it's already been set. Andre and Serena. They are the main actor and actress.
