Is there a special ranking for maternity leave?

Does the wta have a special circumstance ranking for pregnancy. I would imagine such a rule would be in place since it's aon organization made up of only women and if the rule applies to maternity leave then the same maternity rule should be applied to the players who afterall are the wta.

When I think of life, sometimes my response is "Oh Damn!". But I still think of life anyway, "Oh Damn!!!"

yes they have

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the desert of the truth
To the river so deep
We all end in the ocean
We all start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night

It's the same as with any "injury." You have a protected ranking for a certain amount of time after you return.

Well, I don't know the exact answer to all those questions.

But, if you get pregnant/injured when you are ranked, say, #40 in the world then when you come back you are allowed a certain number of tournaments you can enter at the #40 ranking even though you have fallen to, say, #120. That makes a big difference in being allowed to get into the main draw of tournaments.

If you do well and your rank goes up (from 120), that's a good thing but if, after the requisite amount of tournaments you are still below your pre-injury rank (40) then you will drop down to your ACTUAL rank and have to enter qualifying, etc. to get into the main draw.

This is what I understand but someone else might know otherwise. If so, anyone is invited to dispute what I said. I won't get mad. After all, I didn't look it up, I just answered off the top of my head.

Maternity and injury/illness Special Ranking requests will be governed by the same rules (as Injury Rank), however, as for absences due to maternity leave, for a player to be eligible for a Special Ranking such player must be ready to play her first Tournament within twelve (12) months of the birth of her child.

Good luck to my favs

Wow, harsh. Maternity leave has a time limit in which to return to action. But I guess 12 months is ample if the player had made a firm decision to keep playing after the birth of their child. Otherwise, wow...
