Bryan Brothers Will Join Hingis, Laver At adidas Tennis Smash

Bryan Brothers Will Join Hingis, Laver At adidas Tennis Smash

By Tennis Week
06/11/2003

Bob and Mike Bryan became the most successful team of brothers in the Open Era on Saturday when they captured their first Grand Slam doubles title at Roland Garros. The identical twins claimed their 11th team title, one more than Tim and Tom Gullikson who previously shared the record with the Bryans for the most tournaments won by a team of brothers.

On July 14 and 15, the Bryans will share their glory with Tom Gullikson and
other stars at the adidas tennis smash, a celebrity tennis event at Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club on Cape Cod.

"Winning the French Open title together doubles the pleasure," said Mike Bryan, who along with his brother Bob was inspired by the preceding set of American
tennis twins, the Gulliksons. The Bryans dedicated their French Open victory to the Gulliksons and played with "Tim" written on their shoes. Tim Gullikson died of a brain tumor in 1996 and formed the Tim & Tom Gullikson Foundation with brother Tom while he was ill.

Proceeds from the adidas tennis smash benefit the Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to funding care and support programs for brain-tumor
patients and their families.

As the top-ranked team in the ATP Doubles Race, the Bryan brothers' participation in the adidas tennis smash continues a tradition of appearances by the world's No. 1 players at Ocean Edge.

Martina Hingis will be making her first U.S. appearance of the year at the adidas tennis smash. She will be joined by Rod Laver, Jim Courier and other stars. Past top-ranked participants include Stan Smith and Stefan Edberg.

The schedule for the third annual adidas tennis smash is as follows:

Monday, July 14th, 2003
8 a.m. Jan-Michael Gambill junior tennis clinic
11:30 a.m. Celebrity golf pro-am
6:30 p.m. Gala dinner reception & auction

Tuesday, July 15th, 2003
9 a.m. adidas tennis pro-am and awards luncheon
2 p.m. Exhibition matches (ticket prices start at
$40)

For more information about adidas tennis smash corporate sponsorship opportunities, tickets to the feature exhibition matches, four-night family and couple vacation packages, invitations to the Gala Reception, or to participate in the Golf and Tennis Pro-Ams, please visit the adidas tennis smash web site or contact Andrea Kazanjian at (508) 896-4880, ext. 1481, or by email at akazanjian@oceanedge.com.

So Hingis only comes out of retirement when money for exhibitions are involved. Hummm Seems screwy to me. If your feet hurt, don't play PERIOD... I don't care if you get paid $500,000 for 30 mins worth of exhibition tennis and get to kick some ass.

I'm BACK & SINGLE. So lock up all the hotties!

you can tell skiing on the mountain slopes and riding Lytizia just got boring for Hingis....

...for sure she misses tennis and is afraid of losing.

Tennis is her life and it will never leave her....she doesn't want to leave IT behind.

"I follow matches on teletext..."

COME BACK MARTINA...WE KNOW IT'S NOT YOUR ANKLE...YOU ARE JUST SCURRED!

Playing in exhibitions is different from competitive tennis. SHe plays because she cares about the sport..not for the money. I mean, come on, she has a lot of money already!

it is because of her contract with adidas, unfortunately

A single flow'r he sent me, since we met./All tenderly his messenger he chose;
Deep-hearted, pure, with scented dew still wet - One perfect rose.
I knew the language of the floweret;/'My fragile leaves,' it said, 'his heart enclose.'
Love long has taken for his amulet/One perfect rose.
Why is it no one ever sent me yet/One perfect limousine, do you suppose?
Ah no, it's always just my luck to get/One perfect rose.
