Dias, the chair umpire did he...

I don't speak French so I'm not too sure, but during
the match did Dias the Chair umpire ever tell the
crowd not to make noises during the rallies?

I heard the Si viou plas "Please";but he didn't make much
of an effort to stop the crowd noises. I bring this up because
good chair umpires wait or forces the crowd by scolding them
to shut up during a player's serve, or rallies.

If there's any finger point at Serena vs Justine. I blame
Dias for not making much of an effort to shut the crowd
up. I also think he should've just given Serena the first
serve. The crowd seemed to have gotten louder by that
point of the match, and it was getting too confusing who
put up their hand or who wanted to serve.

Any comments.

seriously fantastic question. again, i thought of this today when i watched the match again.

he did say "s'il vous plait" from time to time. but IMO it was often a tad delayed. he waited just that beat or five extra before saying a word.

now, wtf was up with that?

Dias probably didn't know how to tell them. He may have misplaced the French interpretation sheet he was given, or he didn't bother to learn it.

Regarding the request for a first serve by Serena at 4-2, she told Dias that Justine put her hand up, but he kept on looking from Serena to Justine. Serena made the request one more time and he then said something like, "why you always do this?" in his fractured English. I thought that was mighty rude of him. Sensing that the crowd was getting restless, Serena shook her head and continued with a second serve.
