We all know how much ESPN's coverage of RG sucks. Today was the last straw for me, because of broken promises about matches to be shown, so I've decided to complain to them. I urge all of you who have to suffer along to write them and complain. If enough people bitch, maybe something will happen.
Go here to fill out a complaint form: http://espn.go.com/sitetools/s/contact/espntv.html
This is my message, if you want something to go by. I'm sure most of you want to see more women's matches than they are showing, so let them know!! And remember, they also sucked up the rights to Wimbly this year.
"I am writing to complain about the coverage of Roland Garros, the French Open. Never before has tennis coverage been so atrocious, and with Wimbledon on the horizon, coverage has to get better.
My main complaints are with the fact that taped coverage is shown while live tennis is being played, and with the overabundance of Americans being shown. Time and time again, including today, taped coverage has been shown while live tennis was being played. ESPN chose to show the live Clement-Costa match followed by a TAPE of the beginning of the Kuerten-Robredo match while said match was going on live. Coverage ran over because of the use of the tape.
Also, matches were promised to be shown but have not been shown. Today, it was the Ferrero-Mantilla match; before, it was Lindsay Davenport. During today's coverage, it was promised that the Ferrero-Mantilla match, completed before coverage began, would be shown during the coverage today. It was not, and it apparently will not be shown tonight. Ferrero is supposed to be the favorite to win this tournament and yet he has had less airtime than anyone else. 4 rounds and no sign of him. He does have a large fan base in the States, believe it or not.
Americans are dominating the coverage. Yes, I understand this is the US and American players get priority over everyone else, but instead of showing live matches, you opt to show tapes of American matches. This is doing a serious disservice to your community.
Another big problem is the fact that you are showing the same match over and over. Agassi's second round victory got at least 3 plays on air, including being shown live. Capriati and Venus's third round matches were shown twice. And tonight, you have promised to show the same two matches you showed this morning, live or on tape delay.
If coverage does not get better by Wimbledon, you have lost at least one faithful viewer. Roland Garros is my favorite tournament and I will not stand by it being ruined because you have agendas to fill. Live scoring on the internet and NBC's expanded coverage will be more than enough for me; I might actually see someone with a Spanish or South American flag by their name then."
