Will the French Flower Amelie Wilt in the Glare of Serena's Heat?

Serena versus momo the match that has been anticpated has finally arrive. momo comes in riding on a recent victory over the number one serena but her shoulders are heavy with the pressure of the french crowd and playing on the chartrier court. Serena has found that grand slam winning spirit and is eager to avenge her sister as well as herself and climb another step to the final and the trophy with her name already inscribed from last year.

Lets get ready to rumble........

The WTA Women of Wonder Featuring....The Goddess: Venus Williams The Glamazon: Serena Williams The Lioness: Jennifer Capriati The High Priestess: Monica Seles The Saint: Kim Clijsters The Phoenix: Chanda Rubin The Bon Vivant: Amelie Mauresmo The Titan: Lindsay Davenport The Courtesan: Anna Kournikova The Exile: Martina Hingis The Sorceress: Anatasia Myskina The Minx: Maria Sharapova

Serena has it tough if she wants to win this tournament, if things go as expected she has to beat mauresmo, henin and clijsters- the last 3 players to have beaten her. I think she can get past mauresmo, but i think she will stumble on henin- to me henin is confident about beating serena on clay and doesnt have the pressure mauresmo has. I wouldnt be surprised though if serena won the whole thing- but she aint gonna do it without a fight.

The next big thing: Voegele

I was just thinking that same thing - that Serena probably has to beat the last three players to beat her! I think she is still the favourite for any one of those matches (maybe 60-40 in each case), but it's a big ask of anyone.

One thing's for sure, a combination of things will ensure that the crowd is heavily on Momo's side and she seemd to be enjoying that this year rather then shying away from it - so we may well see Amelie's very best tennis.

They are all confident on clay and except for Momo with the added pressure of playing at home I give them all 50 50 odds. Which means Henin winning is no sure thing nor kim. And hey they still have to play their quarterfinals and the russians are looking tough to beat and conchita is bloodthirsty as well. So only time will tell but dont eat your chickens before their caught cause you might be left with a mouth full of feathers.

I'm confident that Serena will win against Mauresmo. Serena FEEDS off of hostile environments, like she said in her interview. Indian Wells is proof of that.

Henin looked shaky as far as the match stats today as well... I'll have to see her qf match to make a comment on the state of her game. they didn't show henin's r16 match today...

Go SERENA
LOL. If Amelie wins it'll be one of the most deserved grand slams ever, coz she'll have to get past Serena, then probably Justine and Kim.

Of course, Serena has a better chance than Amelie. Amelie probably has the least chance of winning the whole thing of the above four players, but I'm still rooting for her.

That would be quite a feat if Serena could manage the next three wins. I imagine they would be hard fought and the tennis, fantastic. I would be ecstatic!

yanno, tennispower, if Serena manages to get the calendar grand slam... it would be the most historic to date because she would have broken the record for most consecutive grand slams won in a row. It will be a double whammy in the history books... #4 to get the calendar grand slam and the first to win that many in a row...

take it one slam at a time, girl! keep doing that thing you do. keep putting your name in the history books with a sharpie.

I just HATE it when matches like these happen.

I love Serena. I love Amelie. So who am I suppose to support??????? And not to mention, I'll fall into my bouts of manic depression if either one loses

...................but I still love Serena more than Amelie though

Go Ai! Go Shinobu! Go Rita! Go Monica! Go Serena! Go Kim! Go Amelie! Go Lindsay! Go Jenn! Go Jelena! Go Mary! Go Conchita! Go Amanda! Go Chanda! Go Elena D! Go Maggie! Go Amy! Go Adriana!

Players I sorely miss.
Dominique Van Roost, Martina Hingis, Gabriela Sabatini, Mary Joe-Ferenandez, Steffi Graf, Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario, Anke Huber, Kimiko Date, Pam Shriver, Naoko Sawamatsu, Brenda Schultz-McCarthy, Sandrine Testud and Julie Halard-Decugis.

Good luck in your post-tennis life

I know how you feel, I feel the same way. Why couldn't Amelie have been in the bottom half of the draw.

Maybe the French hope that the earlier Amelie disposes of Serena, the more chance she'll get to win RG

Even if she beats Serena, I don't see Amelie winning it all, look what happened the last time she beat Serena she wilted against Kim.

Selesfan:

If Mauresmo wins on Tuesday, she gets a full day's rest before playing her semifinal, and she'd get another full day of rest between the semis and the final. I don't think fatigue will be the issue that it was in Rome.

I have no clue who's going to be the last one standing, but the *least* likely player is Rubin.
