Els Callens very angry because of Olympics

Els Callens is very mad at the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Comitee, the BOIC as she has been taken off the preselection list of the Olympic Games 2004.

Callens doesn't have a Belgian doubles partner, Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin-Hardenne don't feel any hurry to play with Callens. But if she can't play doubles she wants to play singles but it seems she can now also set that idea out of her mind.

Els Callens is already busy with her 8th doubles partner this season, and when asked if she didn't want a doubles partner she said. "They think I'm not good enough".

"I don't care if it's with Clijsters or Henin, it's not me who is making trouble. The Olympics are unique and I just wanted to feel the atomosphere once again."

The norms of the BOIC seem to be more strict than those of the WTA. "I want to go for to go to the Olympics, even to Jacques Rogge personal in Lausanne if I have to"

Els won the bronze medal in doubles with Dominique Van Roost at the 2000 Olympics, and this is her reward?

Dutch version:

Els Callens is boos op het Belgisch
Olympisch en Interfederaal Comit, het
BOIC. Ze neemt het niet dat het BOIC
haar schrapte van de preselectielijst
voor de Olympische Spelen van 2004.

Callens heeft geen Belgische dubbel-
partner. Kim Clijsters en Justine Henin
maken geen haast om met Callens te spe-
len. Dat ontging het BOIC niet. Maar
als Callens niet mag dubbelen, wil ze
aanzetten in het enkeltoernooi. Ook dat
idee lijkt ze stilaan te mogen opbergen

"Pure broodroof", noemt Callens de be-
slissing van het BOIC. "Op de Spelen
kun je WTA-punten pakken. Niet met mij"

Op Roland Garros is Callens aan dubbel-
partner 8 toe. Ze speelde dit seizoen
met Fujiwara, Svensson, Navratilova,
Huber, Majoli, Loit, Clijsters, en nu
Tu. Of ze geen vaste partner wil ? "De
toppers vinden me niet goed genoeg."

"Mij is het om het even, met Clijsters
of Henin. Ik doe niet moeilijk", meent
Callens. "De Olympische Spelen zijn
uniek. Ik wil me graag nog eens in die
sfeer onderdompelen."

De BOIC-normen zijn strenger dan die
van de wereldtennisbond. Callens: "Ik
wil ver gaan om naar de Spelen te mo-
gen. Tot bij Jacques Rogge in Lausanne"

That's messed up. I hope they can get this straightened out and Els can get into the Olympics. What about Elke Clijsters? I heard that she's a good doubles player. Would that work?

But every country may select 4 players, why would they leave Els out? Doesn't she have the right to go then?

And seeing as Els is Belgiums singles number 3 and their doubles number 2, seems like they are just been stubborn!!!!! And she is quite a way ahead of Belgiums number 4 & 5 ranked Singles & Doubles players

Yeah. Who in the hell could they want in her place?

fer real...do they want the younger Clijster? She isn't that good....she's like #1 for junior doubles, but that doesn't mean jack for WTA pro doubles =(

Poor Els! Come on Justine, play doubles with her!

They didn't say they want Elke to go, someone just suggested Els could play with Elke, if she couldn't play with Kim or Justine. Elke will not be picked anyway.
