Post I posed this Question on the other board, but thought I might do it here too!!

We know the season ending tournament and we know it is great...But I reckon they should not do the draw on their rankings, but thier rankings on the points table...

For instance, at this stage the matches would be:

Hingis v Huber
Capriati v Maleeva
Davenport v Testud
Venus v Farina-Elia
Clijsters v Dementieva
Mauresmo v shaughnessy
Henin v Tauziat
Serena v Dokic.....

But if they did the draw exactly how they finished on points..it would look like this:
Capriati v huber
Venus v Maleeva
Hingis v Tauziat
Davenport v Demetieva
Clijsters v Farina-Elia
Henin v Testud
Mauresmo v Shaughnessy
Serena v Dokic.

To me that is much fairer, because that is exactly the position points wise they are right now....

I agree... they use the "Chase" points to determine who plays in Munich, so why not use these points to also detrmine the "seeding" for the tourney! Sounds logical!

Actually, there's no way of knowing the matchups. Other than the seeds, everyone else is thrown in randomly. Last year, the seeds were:
1. Hingis
2. Davenport
3. Seles
4. Martinez
5. Sanchez-V
6. Tauziat
7. Kournikova
8. Rubin
The unseed players, in ranking order, were:
Coetzer
Capriati
Dementieva
Halard-D
Testud
Clijsters
Frazier
Likhovtseva

Using the first plays last, etc., scenario, the 1st round matchups would have been:
1. Hingis- Likhovtseva
2. Davenport- Frazier
3. Seles- Clijsters
4. Martinez- Testud
5. Sanchez-V- Halard-D
6. Tauziat- Dementieva
7. Kournikova- Capriati
8. Rubin- Coetzer

Instead, we had:
1. Hingis- Halard-D
2. Davenport- Dementieva
3. Seles- Testud
4. Martinez- Likhovtseva
5. Sanchez-V- Clijsters
6. Tauziat- Frazier
7. Kournikova- Capriati
8. Rubin- Coetzer

By sheer chance, the last 2 came up. But the others didn't. Likewise, going outside-in, the quarters would have been 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5, but we got 1-6, 2-5, 4-7, 3-8.

Serena has never played the season-ending Championships but has qualified in every year on tour except her first year - 1998. Venus, has only played in one (1999) even though she has qualified for every year on tour except her first as well - 1997.

Hopefully they will play this year!

Thanks for the info. Those are some major points they are missing. I hope that play this year so I have some one to cheer for since Monica isn't
