Post What has been the best rivalry of the 90's

Seles/Graf

Davenport/Hingis

Hingis/V.Williams-The best rivalry I have ever seen since Martine. N and Christ. E. These two hate each others GUTS. Plus they bring the best out of each other. This gets my vote

V.Williams/Davenport

Hingis/Serena Williams

ASV/Seles

V. Williams/Capriati

Serena/Seles

S.Williams/Davenport-wouldn;t really call this a rivalry its been really one sided.

You forget ASV/Graf. That was my personal favourite.

Graf/Seles was fantastic also, but cut short.

Hingis/Venus also good.

I was one of the ones on this board following tennis throughout the '80s and '90s and I'd have to say the Seles/Graf rivalry was the most intense. There was a real edge to their matches because they usually occurred in the big events and both were playing superb tennis and not giving an inch. Throw into the mix the period were Sabatini, Sanchez and Navratilova were able to step up and challenge the pair of them and you had some great matches.

Through the desert of the truth
To the river so deep
We all end in the ocean
We all start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams

Personally I prefer Graf/ASV.
Seles/Navratilova also had some really good matches.

Seles-Graf: The Seles-Graf rivalry had to be the most exciting because they always brought the best out of each other's game, pushing each other to become the best. Spanning 10 years it couldn't have been better to see them last face off at the 99 French Open Championships. This head to head could have become better then the Evert-Navratilova rivalry but... But in 3 and a half short years we've seen some of the best matches and best rivalry in tennnis history.

Graf-Sanchez Vicario: My personal favorite. In 8 and a half short years they played 37 times. Although Steffi dominated the head to to head, 17 were in 3 sets and 25 were in finals including their last 16 encounters. Between them we have seen some of the best finals in history especially in grand slams but a 3 setter usually ends after a 2 hour period. Unlike the Monica-Steffi rivalry these 2 pushed each other in their athletic department. Testing each other's stamina the match usually ends with an embrace.

i think the best was graf - seles

but the most interesting was williams against hingis (us open few years ago, all this press-coferences with bad commentrs about the other)

Something was bound to go right sometime today, All these broken pieces fit together to make a perfect picture of us
It got cold and then dark so suddenly and rained, It rained so hard the two of us were the only thing
That we could see for miles and miles
And in the middle of the flood I felt my worth, When you held onto me like I was your little life raft
Please know that you were mine as well
Drops of water hit the ground like God's own tears
And spread out into shapes like Salad bowls and basins and buckets for bailing out the flood

Graf/Sanchez-Vicario. No question. Monica and Steffi didn't play enough for the rivalry to get good. Arantxa filled in for Monica and look how good those matches were!!

I Will Always Love You Arantxa!!!!

You forgot SABATINI-GRAF in 1990-1991-1992-1993 and until 1996.
Gabriela Sabatini was the player who more times wins over Graf. In eleven matches she won.

And Graf-Novotna gave to us a very exciting moment always.

You're right MAURO. The Graf-Sabatini rivalry was good as well. But I agree that I like the early 90's rivalry better. In this mix you had Seles, Graf, Navratilova, Sanchez-Vicario, Sabatini, Capriati, and even Novotna and Mary Joe Fernandez.
