Does Kim WANT to be #2 for Paris?

I just read the "Women's Look Forward" and the writer brings up a very interesting point.

If Kim gets the #2 seed/ranking for Roland Garros, it could produce what no one WANTS to see--a Williams/Williams semi and or a Henin-Hardenne/Clijsters semi.

Interesting week...

kim is destined to be no.2 seed at the RG Open.

If Kim would care she would have played Warsaw...she says she's not interested in rankings and I believe her

People keep saying this but I don't know why "people" supposedly don't want to see those semis. Surely a lot of people would LIKE a guaranteed one Williams- one Belgian final??

Apart from that, I think that like Venus, Kim would care more about being ready for RG than which seed she is, but it still must be nice to be ranked that step higher.

Even if Kim granted the #2 seed at RG2003, that doesn't mean it will definitely spoil an all-Williams final.... If #2 seed draws #3 seed in the same half..

This is gonna be exciting!!!

Interesting scenario indeed. Cosidering that this is clay, the williams have proven that they can play on it, but against the belgians they have a 50/50 chance of winning. venus this yr has been unfortunate coz she got injured and therefore hasn't played enough on clay to make a statement. Having said that, she only played AI and Hamburg last year and got to the finals. She can never be discounted. After the IO, we will know how well serena is playing this yr on clay. Kim and justine have proven themselves very capable not to mention Amelie and jen who they barely got past by.
This is my two cents: On grass and hardcourt with both williams on opposite sides, an all williams final is more than 80% guranteed.
On clay on opposite sides the chances of an all williams final is much reduced and there is as much chance of an all belgian final.
Kim and Justine on the same side of the draw does them a deservice. This is one slam that will be very interesting to watch.

I don't think she cares about poss of all belgian semi....she still has to win 7 matches in a row regardless of who she plays win.

And i don't understand how the all belgian semi would be a match people don't want....they have contrasting styles and are closely matched on clay.

I think Kim wants it to an extent - she would definitely like to be assured she can't play Serena until the final. She is more confident against Venus, especially on clay, so she would rather face her in the SF than Serena. Kim also has a great record against Justine and nearly beat her last week, so she would be confident against her, too.

I don't get it.. what matchs WOUld you like to see??

when Venus and sErena are #1 and #2. then folks complain about that. now it is possible that venus and serena will be #3 and #1 respectively, and then we still don't like the match-ups??

I guess i'm not sure exactly what people are looking for interms of semis and finals...

funnnie thing is, say kim gets number 2 rank, and she told the French Open people, to go on ahead and make her number 3 and venus number 2 for venus is and has been better than her the whole year, and also in the past on the red dirt, all her fans would be so pissed, for kim letting the "Truth" out.

I think Venus and Serena will be on the same side because the slams were waiting for this opportunity, but with Vee's injury I don't know if she will be able to make it to the semis. I hope so though.

The all belgian semis aren't the best matchups either. I thought that Serena vs Justine last year on red clay was some great contests.

I do agree with the poster who said on clay it's 50/50 for the Williams. They still could improve on the surface, and the Belgians have a slight advantage on this surface but on grass and hard the Williams have the advantage.

I really don't think Kim really trips off the seedings. I think she just tries to win all her matches.

actually its the other way around

Kim has had ALOT more success against Serena than Venus

Venus usually wipes her clock other than that Hamburg match (where she lost the first set 6-1) Venus has had Kims number

Kim has...
ONE win vs Serena is "a Lot more success"???

Please explain. I think she has TWO wins vs Venus.

Justine has Two wins vs Serena and One vs Venus.

Venus and Serena STILL lead the head to head stats vs these two.

If Kimmy is the #2 seed. I would love to see her play Venus. but I am fairly certain that if Vee is #3 we'll see her on Serena's side of the draw.

Venus Williams-- My tennis inspiration
