Today I attended the German Open again. It was a great final between Kim and Justine. As I wrote before I really love this tournament. I went to it already several times and it's really good. Such a beautiful area, good players, good atmosphere and really quality matches like the semis and the final this year.
But what I wanted to tell you is what happened during the ceremony after the final. The stadium-speaker said that they are thinking positively about keeping this tourney in Berlin. He said he heard that the sponsor (Mastercard) might have even already signed extension of the contract. Then he interviewed the president of the German Tennis Federation who said that they will try everything to keep this tourney in Berlin and he expects that it will take place in 2004. Afterwards, a representative of Mastercard said that they haven't signed anything yet and he cannot really promise anything, but as for now it looks positive for Berlin, he said.
So I hope that this tourney can stay in Berlin and that they will all fight for it, since it really is a lovely event. If it stays, Steffi Graf already confirmed to play an exhibition match. Please support.
It's nice to have a tournament in your home country... particularly an outdoor one. There are so many tournaments in the U.S. We are spoiled by it. I'm glad you showed up and supported the tournament. Live tennis is so much fun.
