Kim = almost number two ?

Kim just reached the semi final.

I think she now earned 135 points + 16 + 43 = 194 points

Venus = 4.508 points

Kim = 4.312 + 194 = 4.506 points minus 17 th result

It looks as if Kim has to beat Jennifer to become number two.

It is not that important, but in that case Kim will be the number two seed at RG and then there is a 50/50 chance that Venus and Serena meet in the semi final, giving Justine/Kim/Jennifer and the others a chance of reaching the final.

Don't forget that Kim has 200 points to defend at Rome, Venus doesn't.

Everything you do continues long after you've gone

Is she defending anything next week? Will she be certified as number 2 if she wins this tournament, regardless of her result next? I hope not, because I'd like for Venus to remain #2 for the french Open.

The 17 th result of Kim seems to be 88 points.

I thought I read that the rankings for RG were made before the tournament of Rome.

And if this is wrong, I suspect that Venus won't play Rome and then Kim would only have to reach the semi final at Rome.

It would be a surprise if she didn't reach the semi final.

There are not really a lot of players who are able to stop Kim now (Serena, Venus, Justine and maybe Jennifer, Davenport or Seles).

It's pretty sad that people think the only way anyone but a Williams can make the final, is if Venus takes out Serena, or vice-versa...How about one of them stepping up and beating them in a slam?

"And for the best of the teen-agers who followed her, and who occasionally referred to her as over the hill, Graf had a ready answer: against top-ranked Martina Hingis, Graf wound up 7-2. Graf's stirring 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 throttling of Hingis at the French Open final this June was perhaps the most emphatic parting shot the game has ever seen. "

Well, experience tells me that it is almost impossible to beat the two sisters at a slam. The only place this is possible is probably in Paris. Nobody can beat the two sisters at Wimbledon. Their service is way too good.

The difference between the sisters and the rest is still huge. I'm a big fan of the two Belgian super talents, but everytime they meet the two sisters it is almost certain they'll lose.

I believe kim just might have to get past the semi finals in Rome to keep her number 2, b/c she is now the number 2 seed, she will not be collecting all those quailty and bonus points or whatever like she did last year, so if she gets to the semis, she is not certain of the number 2 there either.

Wimbledon I believe Venus 1 was supposed to meet Justine 4 (not sure if justine was 4, but number 4 seed was on venus' side) And Serena 2 was supposed to meet number 3 Jennifer (played Amelie)

Us Open, I belive Serena 1 played Linday 4 in the semis, and Venus 2 was supposed to me Jen 3 in the semis (played mauresmo)

Australia Serena 1 played 4 Kim and Venus 2 was supposed to meet Jennifer 3,

So even if venus gets the number 3 Seed, chances are, Venus will be on the other side of the draw anyway. But you never know. The last 3 slams, its been 1 and 3 on opposite sides so the chances are with Venus, but hey, Venus isn't number 3 yet!

Exclamation

For Kim to get back to number two, she will have to win the entire tournament by beating Justine or Amelie, or meet Justine in the final becuase the ranking of her finals opponent determines what quality points she will get, according to an article I read.

ISTR that in past years, the seedings were done with the rankings one week before the slam. This means the rankings immediately before Sydney determine the AO seeds, the rankings immediately before Eastbourne determine the W seeds, and the pre-New Haven rankings determine USO seeds. IN this case, it would be the pre Strassburg/Madrid rankings that determine FO seedings. In other words, Kim still has to defend her points in Rome.

Serena Slam: Last year, Clijsters defeated Likhovtseva, 16th seed Panova, and eighth seed Testud in Rome. If she makes the semis this year, she should defend her quality points, barring upsets of other people.
