What Serena could do against these types of players

Watching Serenas matches there tends to be certain players that give Serena problems, players who mix it up and tend to get her into long rallys. Now against some of these players, Serena does a good job containing, but against others she tends to have trouble with. Watching her Family Circle Cup final match, the longer the point, the less hope I had for Serena to win the point, which shouldnt be the case. So my question is, what can Serena do to combat this problem? I say having a plan against certain player can be very benificial. Against more quicker finesse type of players, maybe developing a Serve-Volley type of game? She has the best serve in the game today, and with ample development of her volleys she can really do some damage. What do you think?

I definitely think that she won't play a serve and volley game. But the solution for her is to play like she did this year at the Open Gaz de France: she was serving well and advancing to the net after 2 or 3 powerful shots. She's really great to finish this type of points, but she's absolutely not a natural volleyer. Moreover, i think that she had a good variety on her game that she doesn't use enough IMO on clay : her crosscourts shots are really difficult to catch after 3 or 4 shots in which the other player is running from one side to the other.
So my conclusion is that she doesn't haveto use a serve and volley on clay, but if she's not patient enough, she will have to adapt a 3-4 schema of game to finish with an easy volley. We'll see how form she is next week in Roma, it will be interesting

serve and volley on clay lol... like you said, she has a problem against the players who can mix it up. Those are mostly the more technical players. Most of them have a great passing. I don't think serve and volley would be a great idea

I would say: try to mix it up more too, but that's not that easy if it's not really your game

When Serena is not battling herself on court, I don't care who the player is, even on clay, Serena is the one that is dictating the outcome.

She might have two big titles on clay, but it's obvious patience is still an issue with her on that surface. She just has to stay aggressive.

Yes, serena's only problem right now, is herself. Against Henin, all due credit to her game and the win, but it was clear that Serena was battling herself out there more than anything else. And lost. Same thing happned last year in the Berlin Final when Justine won 7-6 in the third. But at the FCC Serena was playing far worst, and justine was playing great "keep the ball in tennis". Serena will rebound, her and Venus have always learned from their mistakes, and i think she will win Rome and French with a lot of ease.

What Serena needs to do is move in after a first serve. what Justine was doing was blocking the first serve, came back deep down the middle, and Serena went all out when wasn't her day and nettet the ball or it floaded. She needs to get first serve in, get in quick, and use her swing volley. she needs to be aggressive always, and get justin out of ehr rhythm. What Justine did was great game plan, and Serena being the #1 should have countered it. but instead she hit every ball at 120 without thought. She won all those slams with pounding the ball WITH thought, being delibarate.
Next time Serena will eat her for lunch...

Serena beats those players nine out of every ten times she faces them.

Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

I don't know that serve and volley suits Serena. With the velocity of her serve, that doesn't give her a lot of time to get to the net. Also, when she's in the backcourt balls rarely get by her. Serve and volley would negate some of the advantage from her outstanding lateral movement.

You have to answer for Santino, Carlo.
