Thumbs up New System for Wimbledon WC's

Just read on teletext that theres a new system this year. This is based on peoples complaits that they are just handed out to the british players even if they have no merit.

4 wildcards will go to the '4 most deserving inside the top 350'
2 more wildcards will be decided by a playoff by the 6 next ranked players
1 wildcard to a junior and 1 to another player

Based on this system i'd say the 4 first wildcard would be

Anne Keothavong
Elena Baltacha
Lucie Ahl
Jane O'Donaghue

the 6 players in the play-off would therefore be

Julie Pullin
Hannah Collin
Helen Crook
Sarah Borwell
Joanne Moore
Rachel Viollet(but shes injured and may retire)
so the 6th player would be
Karen Paterson

I don't know if the junior wildcard is to a british junior or a foreign one.If its british i'd say its between

Melanie South
Katie O'Brien
Katherine Baker

the other wildcarcd this year will be to an austrailan player

Depending on when the play-off is played i think the 4 'loosers' will get WC's to qualifying

The rest of the british gals will have to go through pre-qualifying!

GOOD LUCK IN 2016 GB TENNIS GIRLS

Johanna Konta, Naomi Broady, Tara Moore, Heather Watson , Laura Robson

Eleanor Dean, Katy DunneKatie Boulter, Sam Murray

Katie Swan, Harriet Dart,

I always thought there should be a kind of knock out tournament coming up to Wimbledon to decide the WC's and qualy WC's. It means at least those players have won some matches going in.

I actually think direct main draw wc's should go to Baltacha, Ahl, Keothavong & Pullin as for the past couple of seasons they at least have been trying to cut it on the WTA tour by entering qualies of quite a few events.

I'd give it to Lucie Ahl plus the 3 mentioned above (Baltacha, Anne K, Jane)

Julie's had her go, 8-9 years and never won a match so make her try to qualify.

I thought one had to go to an Aussie coz we gave one to Elena Baltacha for the Australian Open?

Excellent!

Sarah Borwell could surely be in the top 350 within a good tourney sometime soon. She'd def be deserving, though not sure how much the LTA like her as went off to the States...

Would be good to see Crook come through the play-offs and make main draw.

Hope they don't waste any more on Pullin or Collin though...that would be a joke.

The 4 main wildcards should go to;
Elena Baltacha, Anne Keothavong, Jane O'Donoghue & Lucie Ahl. Sarah Borwell could fit into the catergory!

The 6 in the play-off should be;
Julie Pullin, Sarah Borwell, Hannah Collin, Helen Crook, Jo Moore, & if Rachel Viollet retires, then the sixth place should go to Amanda Janes.

The Junior wildcard should go to (if British);
Katie O'Brien

I'd say the list would look like this for main draw WC's

Keovathong
Baltacha
Ahl
O'Donoghue
Melanie South (junior WC)
Samantha Stosur
Julie Pullin (a waste, but they do it every year)

Keep in mind that Martina Navratilova has asked for singles WC's into all the grass court events, including Wimbledon, so they would be crazy to not give her one. If the Wimbledon directors are high (given their recent WC picks it's a possibility too) and deny Martina one, look for Sarah Borwell to get it.

They won't give one to Helen Crook because the LTA hate her since she was the only one to stand up and tell them what she really thought about them. Joanne Moore has kinda hovered in the 300-500 range her whole career, and hasn't done anything spectacular. Hannah Collin has been a joke, but if Pullin can get one for 8 years doing nothing, I wouldn't bet against her recieving a WC.

Qualy WC's will probably be

Borwell
Moore
Crook
Collin
Paterson
Katie O'Brien
Amanda Janes
Viollet (if she is retired though, the last one will probably go to Natalie Neri, Lindsay Reilly, or Carly Homewood)

I would like Martina Navratilova to get a wildcard and also Sarah Borwell, but Pullin will probably get one and waste it!!

I don't think Jo Moore would take part in the play offs as she has stated several times she has no plans to come back and play in europe.

I do think Julie should and could win a match at wimbledon however she has had more than enough chances and should be made to play off.

Hannah Collin is just too lightweight for grass so i would hate to see one wasted on her.

Go: Kim, Sveta, Amelie, Justine, Daniella, Patty & all the brit girls.

guess this isn't how the system works, it's been changed slightly, as men and women ahve different systems.

4 automatic wc's for Brits

4 players then go into a play-off for ONE wild card.

3 are given out at AELTC's discretion, this includes the Aussie one.

Men have the 8 playing for 2 , one of whom must be a junior.

I spoke to Helen Crook shortly after this was announced and she is delighted. As at least you're getting the chance to play-off for one. There are several concerns though:

when is it played? This could majorly f**k-up Birmingham and Eastbourne wc's.

Is there still pre-qualifying? The 3 players who dont come through the play-offs were good enough to be 'selected' for play-off, yet could end up with nothing if its held the same week.

AELTC decides 4 automatic places, 4 play-off players and 3 others, but all names are put forward by LTA for them to consider.

Therefore i'd expect:

Baltacha
Keothavong
Ahl
O'Donoghue

to recieve automatic spots.

Pullin
Collin
Crook
Borwell

to find themselves in the pool, preferably with Helen coming through and Sarah getting an extra wc into main draw. Julie plays qualies on her won rank which lets another player in.

Navratilova
Australian
Borwell/Pullin/Collin/Crook/???

to get the other ones.

Also, the men's statemtn on teh 'top 350' has been retracted, partially coz they dont have enough players in the top 350 to make it a choice!!

Also, expect the older players to get an equal shot, as Felgate has insisted frequently that without the likes of Crook, Ahl, Pullin, Parmar etc... they younger players have nothing to aim at. Patrice just thought they were all a waste of space, when without the over 25's we'd have 6 players in top 500 and not 10!!

alo to clarify for teh mens. That "one junior player" is not a wc into the main draw, it means one spot in teh 8-man play-off must go to a junior ie David Brewer

I think its unfair that the system is different for the women! The woman have players ranked higher than the men.The only difference is the men have Tim and Greg.

I think the junior WC is for an international player not a british player!

GOOD LUCK IN 2016 GB TENNIS GIRLS
