Is anyone else a fan of the Dementieva screech?

You know what I'm talking about, it's not those screams she emits when she makes an error in a rally, it's her normal yell during points. She lets out a high-pitched cry of pain when she somehow arcs her shaky serve into the box, then proceeds to bark short, curtailed whoops as she smacks the ball cross-court. "Hwa-ooh! Hwa-ooh!" and so forth. It seems to me that these noises rather befit her name, and perhaps they played a part in quelling Davenport into submission during the final yesterday. Any thoughts?

It certainly sounds a lot more intimidating than that breathless gasp favoured by Hantuchova when she's forced into long rallies, or else the quiet, subdued groan of Henin when she has to try and return high, floating balls around shoulder-height. And as for Serena - are you kidding me?

oh dear, 'screech'

Sjengman, yet again you've managed to hit new lows (coming closer and closer to my level ). Do you actually realise that you're talking about a woman not an animal?

Or am I too paranoid?

Are you referring to her first name or last name here?

MrsTheBoiledEgg (and BTW, shame on you for letting your individuality be engulfed by the bottomless mire of mediocrity that is TBE), as far as I am aware it is perfectly acceptable to refer to a human being, be they man or woman, as screeching at some point. Yes thank you, I have not as yet conflated Dementieva with an animal, and if I did it would I assure you be a most magnificent thorough-bred, and nothing remotely foul or monstrous.

And yes, I refer to her surname, that one that summons up images of mental delinquency and Russian frailty. But trust me, 'tis but a jest, and nothing that you should take seriously at all.

Hmm *quietly notes her favorite's sly and clever insults not only to The Great and Mighty Eggy but now his wife as well*

Interesting.

Just to stay on topic here, I've never seen Dementieva play so I have no idea what she sounds like. But making noise during points is good for you because it means you are exhaling, which is what you want to do as you hit a shot. So good for her

Well, shame on me if you say so. But, please, let me make my own decisions even if they might turn out to be incorrect later. And my individuality? Meh, did I ever have one?

Do you actually realise that by now you've made two insults (one at a player and the other at a poster) in the three posts of yours in this thread? How long ago did we discuss the use of insults in men's section?

I'd rather you'd stopped here. If only you'd care.

Dementia, as you know, is a serious medical condition and I do find it to be very inappropriate to be referred to in jokes. In fact, I think it's sick. Now shame on you.

Hackie, I prefer to think of it as a studious point of criticism rather than an insult per se. I'm sure they will have many years of ecstatically wedded bliss, but at the moment I am playing the part of the irate next-door neighbour, with their negative anti-Henman/Schalken posts being akin to the barking of a savage and persistent dog disturbing a peaceful night's sleep.

All right, I'll stop fulminating pointlessly now.

Since when is it considered insulting to say that somebody screeches? *wonders if she's missed a rather long and boring arguement from another thread*

Hackie, you don't have to see her play. You should hear her play.

She really makes funny and unique sounds. Ask your favourite, he'll give you more picturesque description than me.

Not only her screech is lovely. I watched her on eurosport yesterday and added her to my favs immediately. She is very funny to watch (and I mean that in a good way ). Especially the way she talks to herself in Russian is hilarious.
