Jennifer needs to get a new coach and

develop strategies before stepping on court. I love Jennifer and she is my favorite player but after I saw her mini-interview on ESPN during the match I was a bit shocked to hear her say she just needs to work on a few physical things leading up to the French. Except for her serve (which is improving...I think she hit more aces than Linds) her game is so technically sound it is not even funny. Her footwork, speed and recovery are amazing. She simply has no game plan. I was eagerly awaiting todays match and I thought, of course Jennifer is going to run Linds side to side on clay...just like Venus and Serena would. Of course Jennifer is not going to stick to her recent 'hitting the ball straight back to her opponent while running from side to side retrieving her opponents shots' strategy.

Well she did.

Everyone knows Lindsay doesn't move well on clay.

Does Stefano Capriati not know this? hello!!!

Jen has 4-5 (hopefully) good years left and I want her to win as many slams and titles as possible. She needs a new coach. She needs a new strategy. She needs a strategy period.

In the early 90's Mary carillo always used to joke that when Jennifer and Monica were losing they just hit the ball harder...that was their one and only strategy. Well, 12 years later and they both have not evolved game plan wise. Jennifer has an amazing ground game. She should have moved Linds with angles side to side. Just don't hit the bloody ball right back to Lindsay in her strike zone (!) and hope for the best. linds eats that shit up for breakfast.

Jesus christ!

Oh...someone in another thread that got a little to negative/nasty for me to respond said that jennifer today played like Aranxta...during the match I was thinking the EXACT same thing. Aranxta, as we all know, was all defense. Jennifer has defense and offense, so why not accentuate the positive and get on the offense?

Hear Hear

Tell me about it.

Jen still retreats to playing defensive power tennis against Lindsay/Venus/Serena when she has the big power game to topple all three of them.

The reason she isn;t doing so is because of her lack of controlled aggression. Yeah sure, you're pulled out wide, etc, but why not go for that BIG shot and get Lindsay on the move....

Jen needs to keep working on her serve and hit the ball more aggressively.

I know she is capable of doing it, hopefully she will

Mark, I don't remember the exact quote, but she also said something about working on different aspects, but NOT the mental. Say WHAT?!! I was blown away by that. I think Pam and Mary Joe were also. They said that the mental part of the game is very important, especially when involved in a tight match.

Well Mark, I couldn't agree with you more. SO MANY TIMES JENNIFER HAS THE POINT WON, but plays passively and lets the opponent in the point. Sometimes, I am screaming: COME TO THE NET! COME TO THE NET!......Yes, she needs a game plan. She seems clueless out there lately. I found her attitude wasn't that great, and was really in all reality "FLAT" today. Didn't have that spark. She should not lose to Davy on clay.

Well Jennifer I still love you!

did you notice that today too? jens body language was just really blah...she seemed so un-interested...if thats the right word...she didnt even really complain at all and that not our Jen! LOL..sometimes the term "flat" gets over-used but in this case it was true...she was really not into it at all and she tried to get pumped up and it never worked...

Yeah Shane I felt she was a bit flat as well. I swear she started hitting the ball harder in the very last game, when it was way too late.

I just don't know. I think the Capriati's are so sheltered and really need a clear outside perspective. Even Harold Solomon, for god's sake. Someone has to tell jennifer to turn it up a notch and make her opponents do some running (consistently) for once. Jeeesh!

Yes, Darren and Mark. She really seemed disinterested today. Usually, I am a person that just takes the losses and don't make excuses. But, she really seemed like she could give a care less.

Jennifer make Lindsay run! Make her run!!! Lindsay is not an agile butterflyLOL. Pretend like she is Serena or Kim.

Jennifer's problem, you are right Mark36, is that she is way off in the correct strategy. She needs to have a gameplan. I would expect that from the 90, 91 Capriati.

shane its funny you say stuff like this cause i posted something similiar on another thread...i said that against lindsay she plays kinda withdrawn but goes after someone like Serena...and Lindsay is the opposite...she plays out of her mind against Jen but against serena..well to be blunt...plays like a pussy. she was so freaking negative last week i didnt even finish watching it...i guess thats what happens when you are someones bitch...you just dont believe you can turn the tables? jen lost before going out there today...although she won the 2nd set i wasnt really convinced she gave a hoot. i figured with Justine out..that jen would be chomping at the bit to get to a final and maybe be the fave to win one?

i dont think getting a new coach would help

she needs to realize these things for herself, or else they'll never happen

at least shes working on her serve

OMG! That is too damn funny! I was thinking the SAME EXACT THINGS TODAY. I said damn't Linds why do you have to play this high level against Jenn. Just play like you are being bitch slapped like when you(Linds) play Rena......and Yes, Jenn has that "fire" against Rena. If Jenn played the same against Rena she would lose 3 and 2

So has Jennifer admitted that she needs to work on her serve? I ask because I read her nasdaq interview after the final, Cappy didn't seem to realise not only do you need to break your opponent's serve but you need to hold your own to win the match.

In some ways her problems remind me of Venus's...coaching, serve(second) lacking aggression etc

Hey Darren and Shane!
I was thinking the exact same thing regarding the mindset of these players before they even walk on court. Why can't Lindsay play this well against Venus and Serena? I saw Linds match last week against Fernandez on ESPN and she was hanging her head like a dog the whole time. She ended up winning the match in straights but she had that old familiar Lindsay 'negative body language'. How come she had none of that today.

It is all psychological.

I guess that makes it more dramatic, but watching it play out on tv pisses me off to no end.

I just think Jen needs ANY sort of game plan. I too, find it odd how she is VERY aggressive against Serena, yet she isn't that way against Davenport. If she played the entire tour the way she plays Serena...Jen would have won a lot more titles by now, I think...possibly including more Slams. I guess rivals just bring out the best in people though.

Mark, you read my mind.

Actually I posted something similar in an Indian Wells thread a few weeks ago.

I noticed at IW, and today, Jenn was hitting everything down the middle, right into Lindsay's strike zone. Hell, Lindsay must have been having orgasms watching all those balls coming straight to her. Hell, even high-school players know you need to make a Big Girl RUN. Let's face it, Lindsay is not exactly a graceful gazelle. (love ya, Big Bad Linds!)

Jenn needs to THINK out there. Her retrieving style just ain't cutting it anymore. She has the groundies to beat Big Linds and Ree, but she needs to start THINKING instead of hitting everything to the middle of the court while saying a Hail Mary.

Also..... Daddy has to go. NOW.

LMAO. Keep it coming Mark! I know I could twist Linds head off when she plays the sisters. When I watched the match with her against Rena in Charleston, I thought to myself : Damn't now watch when she plays Jennifer!

Mark, you need to come to Southern Decadance in New Orleans next Labor Day and the weekend
