Serna vs. Molik in Budapest Final!

Serna and Molik to meet in Budapest final

April 19, 2003
BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) -- Second-seeded Magui Serna beat Ludmila Cervanova 6-3, 6-2 Saturday to advance to the final of the Budapest Grand Prix.

Serna, who won last week's Estoril Open, will face third-seeded Alicia Molik, a 6-4, 6-4 semifinal winner over Maria Sanchez Lorenzo, in Sunday's final.

Serna charged to a 3-0 lead in the first set, and broke Cervanova at 1-1 in the second set.

``I feel a bit tired because this is my second tournament in a row,'' Serna said. ``But I am determined to do my best to win in the final tomorrow.''

Molik held serve at 3-4 in the first set, and broke Sanchez Lorenzo to take a 5-4 lead. She then held serve to win the first set.

In the second set, Molik lost the first four games before winning six straight.

Shame on you guys!!!! Not a word about Magui!!!! She won estoril last week, defending her title there, and now she's made a run to the Budapest final. She is fucking HOT. Kudos to her.

Now back to Alicia lovefest.

wasn't magui in an awful slump last year? Or am I mixing her up with another player.

Good to see her out of it, guess there is hope for Daja.

However I want Alicia to win. Good lucK Molik!

Yea, Serna did struggle last year. 2 years ago was really her good season...I think she won 2 titles, and got to 2 or 3 finals. I know she got the finals of Easbourne, where Davenport killed her.

actually, I think Magui's best year rankingwise was 1998. That year, I believe I recall her upsetting Steffi among others.

Plus, she had a huge run at Wimbledon in 2000, besting Pierce en route to the QF.

But it's always peaks and valleys with her. But I like her. She has a very pretty game, and she is the rarest bird of all: A Spaniard that loves to play on grass.
