Lisa Raymond, who upset Jelena Dokic in three sets yesterday, played two years at the University of Florida and remains a huge Gators fan.
Q: What was it like to be inducted into the UF Athletic Hall of Fame last weekend?
A: "It was probably one of the most memorable nights of my life. ... To be a part of that extended family and be recognized for what I did for that university among so many other great athletes is just such an honor."
Q: Emmitt Smith was there. Did you get to meet him?
A: "Yes I did. He was super, super nice. ... He was just so humble. After meeting him and after hearing his speech and seeing how he reacted that night -- every time one of the inductees was being honored he stood up for a standing ovation -- I think he's just a class act."
Q: Who's your favorite all-time UF football player?
A: "Probably Kevin Carter. He was a friend of mine, which I'm a little biased, but I thought he just stood out. Him and Danny [Wuerffel] were at school when I was in school. Kevin, he always played with such heart. ... You could see that back in college he was going to excel and get into the NFL and do well."
Q: Best football moment you personally witnessed?
A: [UF's 37-13 win over FSU in '01] "It went score, score, score, score. It was amazing. Literally we were on our feet the entire game."
Q: Have you ever visited fireronzook.com?
A: "Oh, that's sad. I would never. Coach Zook was at school when I was at school, and when he got the job I was ecstatic. He's a great guy. Obviously it's difficult to walk in to fill Steve Spurrier's shoes, and Gator fans can be tough. Let's give Coach Zook some time."
