Monica fans: How many GS titles would Althea Gibson have won ...

... if all the majors had allowed Blacks to play her entire career?

Proud to be an American
Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

I think it is because Monica fans argue about how many Slams Mon would have won if she had not been stabbed, so Volcana is saying how many Althea would have won if she'd been allowed to play every Slam. Comparing them because something held them back from winning all that they could have. I think thats what Volcana means

it's his stupid way of saying that the stabbing does not matter and should be ignored and that you can also say "what if" for althea gibson. In other words, he's worst then Parche and is basically an asshole.

I agree with the "a lot more" comment. Why is this addressed to Monica fans.

yea, that makes some sense, i guess. i'll just stick to my answer, a lot more. i never saw her play, but if she got to #1 without being able to play all the fans and quit so that she could take a job that would pay her more money, she would have won many.

So is this comparing being black to being almost murdered? I don't see what this has to do with Monica at all......

This is a good question, but it should be addressed to everybody. Why are you asking only Monica fans, Volcana?

Well, Althea first entered the US Open in 1950 and didn't win it til 1957. Her first trips overseas was 1956, as far as I can tell, producing her first Slam at RG. Could be she didn't have the money to play in Europe. Truthfully, I doubt it would have been much different. She might have gotten to 8 or so.

You have to answer for Santino, Carlo.

Well it's funny this is connected somehow to Monica, because Althea was actually HELPED when Mo Connolly, the greatest champ of the early 50s, had her career finished when she was in a horse riding accident in 1954. Mo was only 19 or 20, had won 9 slams and a grand slam already, and was even more dominating than Seles was in the early 90s.

So while Althea was robbed to some extent, she was also "helped". The few times they played Mo thrashed Althea.

The other thing is Althea turned pro in 1958, cutting herself off from winning perhaps another 4 or 5 slams. Of course this helped the next champ Maria Bueno.

The point is most every great champ from the first to the last has gotten good breaks as well as bad.
