lets talk about the juniors

i haven't looked at records or anything but i just suddenly got this question in my mind. do the players that reach a junior grand slam final but don't win do better on the wta tour than winners of junior grand slams. i'm expecting that most winners of a grand slam on the wta tour are junior grand slam winners also but i thought it would be interesting to talk about.

I don't know that much about juniors.
But I know Justine Henin-Hardenne won Roland Garros 1997 or something.
Also: Cara Black used to be a real dominating force and she won many junior Grand Slams.

As for recently: Angelique Widjaja, Vera Douchevina, Barbora Strycova...
We'll have to wait and see.

I think it depends. To use Glenn's example, Cara Black won the junior Wimbledon and U.S. Open titles in 1997, but she was eighteen-years-old when she did it. When Justine Henin-Hardenne won the junior French Open title the same year, beating Black in the finals, she would have just turned 15 the week before the tournament. I think that age definately plays a factor in determining which juniors will or will not be good.
It is not the only factor, though. Mirjana Lucic won two junior Grand Slams, and she is only four months older than Henin-Hardenne, yet they are miles apart in terms of career success.

To give you an idea of which players have been successful, here are some top juniors since 1995:
'95 -- 1) Anna Kournikova, 2)Aleksandra Olsza, 3)Annabel Ellwood (Aus), 5)Tara Snyder (Usa), 8)Mi-Ra Jeon, 9)Denisa Chladkova, 10)Aubrie Rippner (Corina Morariu was number three in doubles)
'96 -- 1)Amelie Mauresmo, 2)Mirjana Lucic, 3)Lilia Osterloh, 4)Olga Barabanschikova, 7)Katarina Srebotnik, 8)Samantha Reeves
'97 -- 1) Cara Black, 2)Srebotnik, 3)Tina Pisnik, 6)Justine Henin, 7)Irina Selyutina, 8)Zsofia Gubacsi, 10)Jelena Kostanic (Maja Matevzic was a top ten doubles player.)
'98 -- 1)Jelena Dokic, 2)Katarina Srebotnik, 3)Nadia Petrova, 4)Elena Dementieva, 6)Evie Dominikovic, 8)Clarissa Fernandez, 9)Mia Buric, 10)Milagros Sequera, 11) Kim Clijsters (Daniela Hantuchova and Iroda Tulyaganova were top ten in doubles.)
'99 -- 1)Lina Krasnoroutskaia, 2)Daja Bedanova, 3)Virginie Razzano, 4)Aniko Kapros, 5)Maria Emilia Salerni, 6)Iroda Tulyaganova, 7)Eleni Daniilidou, 9)Lenka Dlhopolcova
2000 -- 1) Salerni, 2) Kapros, 4) Renata Voracova, 5) Tatiana Perebiynis, 7) Edina Gallovits, 8) Vera Zvonareva, 9) Dlhopolcova, 10) Eva Birnerova (Not quite as strong of a group)
'01 -- 1) Svetlana Kuznetsova, 2) Birnerova, 3) Marion Bartoli, 4) Zvonareva, 5) Angelique Widjaja, 6) Gisela Dulko, 7) Jelena Jankovic, 8) Ashley Harkleroad, 9) Virag Nemeth, 10) Barbora Strycova (Dinara Safina and Myriam Casanova were also part of this group.)

Last year, the top juniors were Strycova, Vera Douchevina, Maria Kirilenko, and Anna-Lena Groenefeld in singles, and Elke Clijsters, Strycova, Groenefeld, and Kirsten Flipkens in doubles.

Neither Sveta, Safina or Vera ever won a Junior Slam...

I don't think Myriam did either...

Angie won two and all of the above mentioned are ranked higher than her...
