'nice' thing about Els Callens

Last week Els Callens got through the quallies in Charleston and had to play Anna Pistolesi in the first round.
Last time they met, Pistolesi (then known as Smashnova) won that match 6-0, 6-0.

This week Els Callens is playing Amelia Island and she got through to the second round. There she faces Alexandra Stevenson.
Last time they met, Stevenson won that match......................
Indeed 6-0, 6-0

Nevertheless, Els Callens showed today she still had some fighting spirit left!
In her 1st round match against Cara Black she trailed 6-7, 1-4 with a double break in the second set... At 6-7, 3-5 she faced a first matchpoint but managed to win the game... At 6-7, 4-5 she faced another 3 (!) matchpoints, but she kept fighting and won that match
6-7 (10/12), 7-6 (7/5), 6-2!!!

Good luck against Stevenson!
She's beatable, especially on clay courts!

Thats weird considering that people were saying how she'd trouble Serena at the AO, and how she did indeed trouble Serena at WB last year. Just goes to show its how you play on the day. Nothing's certain. You might not even win a game no matter how good you are.

hard for me to be happy for els at the expense of Cara. They both needed that match.

I think callens has a great shot against Alex.

Congrats To Els

Congratulations to Els Callens on a gutsy win. I've seen her play a few times and must say that she's very likable. I think of her as a doubles specialist and was pleasantly surprised to see her playing with Navratilova this week. Good luck to them.

Els can generate some great stuff from that racket of hers but she is not very consistent. Good to see her fight like that. Good luck against Alex, Els!
BTW, that match against Serena at Wimbledon was awesome; too bad she did not get a set.

Am I BTW the only one who has noticed that Els has fabulous legs, long and slim and just enough muscles.

Make that two

A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening ear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn.
