No More WILLIAMSes Dominant!

The WTA competition is getting tougher and tougher

On The paper The Williams sisters are still the best player in the world, but Their dominant has broke (let say this year 2003)

VENUS lost to Shaughnessy
SERENA lost to Henin-Hardenne

Especially UNBEATABLE "Serena" has come to an end!

Find me a player with a better record than Serena. Name one , anyone. If you can't then Serena is still domninat...Her sister ain't doing too shabby herself, she's only played 3 tournaments and lost 2 matches . waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

"I love the game, I love the thrill, I love the "Go Venus`."
"It takes a lot of work to get to this level, so while I can play I'm going to play."

It'd be real nice if the domination was broken and some other girls had a shot, but it's unlikely to happen until Serena and Venus EACH loose about four more matches when playing against other people.

One loss for Serena does not signal the end of an era.

As far as I know the Williamses are still dominating. Venus's loss was dealt with Meghann having a match of her life, and Serena today was NOWHERE near her usual calibre of play...But I agree it is a start..

Although they have both lost this year, I think that it only thing it proves is that they are human and are able to be beaten. Now when they are consistently being beaten, then it will be safe to say that they are no longer dominating. I say let's wait a little while longer before making such a statement. Right now, the theory is totally full of holes.

I have CDO. It's like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, except in alphabetical order like it should be.

Both sisters did pretty well on clay last year. Serena losing a final doesn't mean she is gone. Actually she is already doing better than last year, she lost in the Quarters here a year ago. They might not dominate on clay, but they will do very well.

And of course, after clay season comes "The Williams" seasons, grass and hard court.

End of Serena? yeah right

Exclamation

I think it is too early to say that the Williams domination is over. Sure, Serena lost today and it may not be the last time she loses this year and Venus lost at the Nasdaq-100. But their three losses together are still less than Justine's (4, I think), Kim's (4), Lindsay's (6), Jennifer's (4, I think) and rest of the top ten. Serena is still the holder of all 4 Grans Slams titles as well as two Tier I titles and she has a winning record against every player in the current top ten. Venus is still a force to be reckoned with on the tour, even if she doens't have any recent Grand Slam titles or Tier I titles plus she has a winning record against every person in the current top ten except her sister. It is a fact Kim will be number two for the next three weeks, but she will be a noncompeting number two and will go back to number three before the German Open where she will have to actually compete to get to number two.

Another fact; until the other players can beat the sisters on a consistent basis, you will see them in Grand Slam finals and in finals of other tournaments, because as most of you know, the sisters rarely lose to the same person two times in a row (ask Kim Clijsters).

In 2002, at about the same time (just before Amelia Island), this was the combined williams' sisters record:
Matches Won/lost:
Serena - 14/2
venus - 17/3
=> a combined 86% winning ratio

Titles won:
Serena - Scottsdale, Miami
Venus - Paris, Antwerp

Within this time period, they had losses to Meghann, Patty s., monica and sadrine.

In 2003, within the same time period,

Matches Won/lost:
Serena - 21/1
venus - 12/2
=> a combined 91% winning ratio

Titles won:
Serena - AO, Miami, Paris
Venus - Antwerp
Within this time period the only people who beat the sisters were only Meghann and Justine.

Yes, that shows compared to the last year at similar time, their domination was really broken.

lol! I agree with you, but poor Kim! Serena isn't the only person she has a bad record against...she's always gong to judged for not being able to follow up on her win over Serena last year.
