Charleston, SC (Sports Network) - Belgium's Justine Henin-Hardenne beat top-seeded Serena Williams in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, on Sunday to win the championship at the $1.3 million Family Circle Cup tennis event.

The second-seeded Henin-Hardenne claimed $189,000 for her victory. She won for the second time against the American Williams, who took home $96,000 as the runner-up.

The 20-year-old Henin-Hardenne captured her second championship of the year, while Williams lost her first match of the season after winning 21 in a row.

With the first set even at 3-3, Henin-Hardenne was able to break Williams' serve in two of the final three games to take a one-set lead.

Williams broke Henin-Hardenne's serve in the first game of the second set and held her serve in the next game to go up 2-0. Both players held serve over the next three games, as Williams led 3-2.

Henin-Hardenne broke the American's serve in the sixth game and then held to go up 4-3. After exchanging service games, Williams served at 4-5.

With the score 15-15, Williams double-faulted and then hit a forehand long to give Henin-Hardenne two match points. After saving one match point, Williams put a weak forehand into the net to give the Belgian the title.

Williams, who defeated No. 3 and fellow American Lindsay Davenport in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5, on Saturday to gain a berth in the final, finished the match without a service ace.

Williams put a weak forehand into the net to give the Belgian the title.
That was a backhand, and it wasn't exactly "weak" when you consider that it had major slice on it and it bounced on a line, leaving it for dead.

Who is Rtael?
This guy Rtael ,brainless and ignorant, is one of the most obnoxious, arrogant and coward guys whos has been a pest in this forum for years now.Given the new anti-bully policy he'll probably be expelled soon. Observe how he tries to rally and gang others against you. Mean people like him shouldn't be allowed here. And all because he "doesn't like your attitude"!!

isn't funny how these "tennis journalists" refer to everything as "overpowered", "strong", "weak" ,etc. It's always the same basic bias in favor of power tennis and reflects a true lack of understanding. People say that Justine just got the balls back but that in itself is smart and difficult. When was the last time you saw Serena play two sets of tennis and hit ZERO, yes ZERO ACES!
