Origin of 'love'

Does anyone know what the origin is of the word 'love' in tennis??

I've heard that it's a bastardization of the French word "l'oeuf" (egg, pronounced "loof," rhymes with "woof.")

Meaning you got the big egg, zero.

Hmm... I heard otherwise, that it developed in the royal courts as a "proper" game between ladies and gentlemen... and was a part of matchmaking, therefore the use of "love". I could be wrong
