What a mature demeanor from Ajla out there! The serve and backhand were great today
I still think her forehand is a bit weird. Kinda loopy
No doubt she was helped immensely by Dani's mistakes, but she was cool, calm, and collected, which is what we as Ajla fans want from her!
Wozniacki has magnificent shotmaking if you ask me, but it's not the power kind of one. She has to rely on all court tactics to make effective her sweet topspin mix, while still able to hit pretty decent winners when she feels them, especially with the backhand. Despite not making many winners, she's still an agressive baseliner, and she doesn't only win matches by waiting the opponent's mistake, though she can do that at times also.
Congrats, Alja! Good serve with a smooth motion, good BH, but the FH needs a ton of work. It took awhile for it to click in Dani's head (despite Ricardo saying it pretty much everytime he came out ) that she needed to hit there all day everyday. She has a really good slice as well, it helped her in this match. Mini choke at 4-3 in the 2nd (got no 1st serves in), but she came through. Croatia coming up with some young talents
I really want Dani to do better, but she seriously is a mess. She can't sustain a high level for more than like 5 minutes. Her shot selection these days is awful and the FH is like a tragedy
Impressed by Ailja's attitude in this match. She's cool as a cucumber, did not panic when Hantuchokeva strung in a couple of games to get ahead in the second set. Her defense and shot selection is also impressive, when compared to other juniors.
But the most impressive part of her game is her serve..The ace to finish the match.
Forehand does need work though.
