That's way too much. Tennis isn't that popular in China.

Oh, and there's no such thing as XWTA

My thoughts exactly. I'm not entirely against there being Asian tournaments but placing so many in one nation when Stacey could spread them to other venues in other countries is ridiculous.

It will die, players will start complaining or just bypass it completely and when the crowds don't show up the penny will drop, either that or Stacey will step down and someone else will change it up.

Re: Your Thoughts: TEN XWTA Events In China & Chinese Territories In 2014 ???

i dont think players will bypass these tournaments

a lot of asian players will participate, and even without foreign competition they'll get high rankings on their own and inflate themselves high into the top 100... but obviously up-and-comers from behind the top 100 will be playing these events... vekic got herself a whole lot of points in asia that lifted her deep into top 100. bencic did a vulture tour in the weak ITFs where diyas was the hardest opponent

and the premier tournaments can't be overlooked by the top players... the appearance is forced by WTA. it's like moscow got once insanely strong line-up when it was the top tier event (and players don't like going to moscow because it's cold and expensive and you need visa, and everything is written in cyrillic)

This won't actually happen. Well it won't in Europe anyway, it's struggling in North America already. People just won't tune into these events as opposed to turning away from the sport. Most people don't really care about the Asian swing in Europe anyway.

Least with Tanjing, Stacey has stopped expanding into cities in the top 10 polluted cities in China.

This won't necessarily be the case. At the end of the day if the top players don't want to play they will find a way not to play. It's to be seen how many top players will travel to play both Wuhan and Beijing that close to the US Open.

I thought the same thing.

Table tennis at Olympic level is a joke, it's like an Inter-Chinese tournament, just find a flag, stick it on your t-shirt and play.
But it is the fault of sporting committees in other countries, they are to blame. I still remember a Chinese table tennis player that was representing France, it was as if she had a crash course in French just before the Olympics - It was evident that she hadn't spent long in the country at all. The French commentary team were even giggling about the obvious fact that she had been 'recruited' to try and win a medal for France.

Have you actually checked where Tianjin is before you make such comment? It's a satellite city nearby Beijing and the pollution is not anywhere better.

People always say Americans complain about tournaments in China but have people actually thought about why? It's not just senseless against the Chinese but actually logically against the WTA. You don't see ATP getting complained as much as WTA.

WTA need tournaments but what did they do to make space for the Chinese events? Not only do they not support the events that were originally on the calendar, they move them around to make sure the existing tournaments die on their own without much support.

They downgrade events that's with them for 30+ years (Tokyo for Wuhan), they insert weird tournament at weird weeks like Shenzhen (seriously its not AO prep), or purposely to boost up rankings as most players can't play suitably (Suzhou) or have to make a choice (3 tournaments a week with a Premier or directly after a big event) with diluted fields.

Maybe we will see Shanghai replace Moscow on the calendar in 2016.

So what happens when a friend or partner holds a different opinion against your favorite?

2-4. So there is more space for a european indoor swing. If not atleast put more Chinese tournaments indoors

They should keep Beijing 1000/Guangzhou or Shenzhen 280,6 WTA Tournments is too much

Pollution Index describes Tianjin as moderate. Not clean by any means, but clean by Chinese city standards.
