( The Romanian Goverment increased the sports budget for the WTA tournament )
I don't see a good news in this, when a tournament is sustain by the government. It's not a guarantee that, next year will sustain the tournament again.

WTA Katowice is only 70 km from Czech border. Linz only 35 km. They are now like Czech Open, both on indoor hardcourts

Two different groups (one being Kvitova/Safarova/Berdych agency) tried to buy Brussel license in 2012, but in the end Brussel did find extra finances to stay in the calendar (for two more years).

Re: Bucharest to replace WTA Budapest Grand Prix?

The WTA tournament is organized at the BNR Arenas as well, so what will happen with it?

Romanian billionaire moves tennis tournament from Bucharest to Budapest

BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy, an ATP World Tour 250 tournament, was organized at the BNR Arenas in Bucharest so far, but the improper infrastructure made the billionaire take this decision.

"A dragon." The cheesemonger saw the look on his face at that, and laughed. "A dragon with three heads."

2016 is last year with licence for Bucharest anyway. Probably it will move back to Budapest from 2017 on.

The agreement was till 2018 but that doesn't mean much.

Unfortunately, chances got even bigger after finding out the ATP one will be in Budapest . No news yet (neither positive or negative) . More over, not even the players or something new was put on the tournament's website or social media accounts ....

Romania ... Sad stuff
.

Contract is signed till 2018 (including 2018) . We'll see what it will happen though, cause if something isn't done, we'll most likely lose it earlier.

Re: Bucharest to replace WTA Budapest Grand Prix?

I've tried google translation, but I can't understand

"Tournament International girls will be playing this year all at BNR Arenas, we will build a tennis center as built and the team of Mr. Ion Tiriac. Hence, there are some additional costs. Of course we are very sorry that we can not get a sports arena to measure competition hosted by Romania. it is a failure of teams means City Hall, City Council, or who is responsible for these goals. we strive to bring the country's most important competitions, but here we do not have anywhere to operate. Unfortunately, Romania is a big minus, "said president of the Romanian Tennis Federation.

Re: Bucharest to replace WTA Budapest Grand Prix?

^ The tournament's center court will be a new improvised (and smaller) arena that will be built until it begins . That's the main idea. Sad Romania is sad .
