So anyway, Maria is back in Australia. Maria fans, are you hoping she makes the final against Serena in Melbourne? I was so disappointed to find that in the Dream AO final thread, a lot of people didn't like that idea.

Well, I would personally prefer a Maria/Vika final, but I'm always open to Maria-Serena finals, no matter how NID they are. Gotta keep hoping that one day that win will finally come

I agree with everyone saying this is Publicist driven.

It's old news - retreaded stuff - meant to keep Maria's visibility up, filling in the vacuum lack of recent success on the court has left. Nothing more. It's barely even thread worthy.

- Maria Sharapova is undoubtedly the most famous female athlete in the world.
I actually rather doubt that, especially after the Olympics.

Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

If we squeeze the juice from all this papyre it's just vagueness.
Like I said before, Maria is no dummy. She is smart to do whatever she needs to get some media attention. She has to do something to take the attention off of the fact that she did not win a slam this year. As far as her win over Serena at Wimbledon, Maria was just at the right place at the right time, and sometimes that's all you need to happen to launch your career. Timing and preparation is everything.

History will not remember if Serena was half-pumped or not and was coming from injury, nor more than it remembers the conditions of any other player who lost. She will only be remembered for the win and rightfully so because anytime a player steps on the court, they announce that they are able to play. I think Maria's serve was better and she was young and fearless and believed she could beat Serena and she did in two sets.

The media and hype surrounding Maria was sooo high because the WTA found their girl. Maria was beaten by Petra, but Petra didn't blow up after that win because she was not a media sensation and the USA nor the WTA did not build Petra up. And in my opinion, Petra's win over Maria was no less than Maria's win over Serena, but Petra was not as famous as Maria. Maria was a celebrity before she won anything and that makes a difference in how the win is perceived.

As far as Serena is concerned, she continues to win and grow her bank roll, and that's all that matters in the end.
