is svetlana the best newcomer?

i really don't understand how svetlana received the newcomer of the year award by the wta?

She's a great player, no doubt, but what about clarissa fernandez, who reached the semis of the french, and vera zvonareva - who consistently performed at a higher level than svetlana throughout 2002.

Wimbledon champion, Australian open runner up, French open runner up, US Open semi finalist, World no 2, Fed Cup darling, Italian Open queen, Berlin doyenne, Hilton Head heroine, Philadelphia Princess,...the beautiful, incomparable CONCHITA - A 1988 vintage - sweet, fruity and just gets better with age!

P.S - If Conchi ain't in the draw - go Monica!

What about Hanchucohova or is she the most improved player. I would have to say though she did win a tournament I think Vera played better against the top players like Clijsters and Rena.

i know she won two titles, but a choice - 2 "small" tournie wins, or a run to Roland Garros semis?

We should use that sentence when they talk about Anna not having a title

it's certainly subjective, but one thing is for sure: it wasn't the first season of Fernandez on tour, so I don't think she was considered

Vassilissa is my girl............

had Vera won that title against Christina or something....
in the final back in the clay season last yr......
she would have gotten that title,
coz she has a better showing in Slams

however, i believe her double pairing with Martina
must have something to do with it dont u think?

i think the reason was because she won 2 titles. she may also have risen up the ranks the most but i don't know.

was fernandez really a newcomer because she was in the top 150 the year before wasn't she? i think that could be why she didn't get it.

No one hit the tour like I did back in the day. I had my peers quaking in their green flashes.

I have to agree I thought Vera had the more consistent 2002 even though Sveta won two titles.
