What Does Venus Need To Do?

Losing to Serena 6 times in a row is unacceptable.

Venus will need to return hard and deep down the middle. Serena hates this. Also get into the net ASAP ALL the time even if you lose the first set.

It will throw Serena off balance. And don't forget to serve big, 127+

I know this sounds bizarre, but I think Venus needs to improve the consistancy of her serve, that is what is hurting her right now. IF you look at the white washings of 6-1 6-1 she usally hands out those two games the opponent wins are likely to be on Venus' serve. Serena is a good returner, and she will just lap up the free points that Venus on serve.

Also I think it is fair to say that in Moscow the serve really went haywire and even Maggie lapped it up.

too bad. ESPJEN doesnt show any match that might be good.

Anyway, you are right, for whatever reason Venus' serve falls apart.

She need to keep it together. Please.

This reminds me of early 90s when Gaby beat Steffi 5 times in a row. But Steffi made some changes in her games and then was a better player bc of it.

That 1991? wimbledon final was the bomb!!

didn't davenport say something to the effect when she beat serena at the 2000 us open that her game plan was to hit to serena's feet? i hope venus finds a similar answer because serena's domination of big sis has extended longer than expected.

this is a great plan.

venus beat herself in melbourne.

her serve and forehand fell apart in the last game and she made 4 unforced errors. she needs to keep it together and she will win.

Venus has more raw power than serena. serena just gets errors from venus.

I don't know when people will foreget about Venus and Serena matches.
When Venus beat Senera in such a manner in 2000/2001, it was not
Venus' ability in doing that instead their father fixed matches in the
process. Now the watch turns the other way round, it is Venus' serve,
that and that bullshit. The time for Venus to beat Serena without
doing anything special will come, probably during this tournament.
Let us just look.

I kind of agree with this statement, but I do think her serve has been the liability when she meets Serena. Whenever Serena needs a good serve to get out of trouble she goes right down the T. I think Venus is right there when she meets up with Serena, but the Serve has to come together again. She has to get her 1st serves in, because Serena will eat that second alive, and that is really Vee's weak part of her game. I hope that she has worked on it, otherwise IMO Serena will not let up and beat Vee everytime which would not be to fun for me as a fan. I will be happy for Rena, but sad for Vee!!!!

IMO I believe Venus needs to just stay with the match mentally. Granted Venus's second serve is a liabilty but when it really matters her serve is usually there for her. I feel Venus really needs to be more aggressive and start really punishing Serena's second serve b/c anyones second serve can be pounced on. Hopefully Venus took this off time to work on some new things and if that match with Kim earlier this year is any indication of her improved play then Serena could very well be in trouble, but we will see soon enough.

Not only does Venus need consistency on her serve and forehand but she needs to take charge! It almost seems like everytime they play Serena is in the offensive and Venus is in the defensive. So I think she needs to be more aggressive and come to net more..

Another thing which I hate to say is to stop practicing with her! lol Might seem odd but Serena knows Venus' game like the back of her hand and knows how to deal with every shot Venus throws at her..but anyway one thing's for sure is that Venus has to change SOMETHING unless she wants to keep losing to lil sis

Venus needs to be fitter. Her problems with Serena are based on fitness. She cannot maintain the high level of play necessary to beat someone who knows her game so intimately.

I agree but disagree also with you on some points. IMO, Serena is more aggressive than Venus overall when playing. Serena goes for her shots almost instantly, but IMO Venus takes the time to set up her shots. If you watch Venus matches, she can rally with an opponent really well, she will really set it up. However, if you watch Rena play you will notice after 2 or three shots she is going for a winner. Rena has gotten better with rallying, and that's why she has beaten Jen in the past year.

Also, I have to say that practicing with Serena will probably each of them become better. Practicing with Venus made Serena better, and Venus practicing with Serena will make her better if she chooses it. You see what Rena did was go get some outside help on her game, and IMO that's what Vee should do with her serve. Get some extra help, and continue to practice with Rena to get better on that serve and forehand. If she did this IMO, then she will win some matchups with Rena. IMO, it still is possible now for her to win over rena in Miami. It all matters if she can serve well enough.

The part where Venus needs to most improve is her mental game. IMO if she can get together that sheer hunger and fight as she displays against her other opponents, she can beat Serena...no questions asked.
