2 Questions about Martina H's ranking.

I'm a Martina's fan. And I have 2 questions about Martina's ranking,.. if anyone knows something regarding that matter,.. please enlighten me about that. (sorry if this matter had been discussed here before,.. I didn't follow these threads much lately,.. since Martina's retirement. )

First question is why Martina is still on the ranking list as #60. I found that this morning and it's somewhat weird. If Martina don't want compete in the near future(or for good),.. she would have wanted to get out of the ranking list rather than staying as a #60 player. So,.. I'm wondering what makes WTA to release ranking list with Martina's spot.

Sencond one is what would be the Martina's ranking if she comes back in 2 or 3 years,... I mean injury protected ranking. I think she was in the top 10 when she was active,... then after several withdrawal from events, her ranking started to fall. So,... do you know what would be her protected ranking if she decides to come back? And how long the protected ranking is availale for an injured player from her last match play? ( I don't think they would provide a injury protected ranking for a player who retired 10 years ago. So,...)

It would be really appreciated if you enlighten me regarding these matters.

Eric, Martina must request her name be taken off the rankings, otherwise it will stay until she has fewer than three tournaments.

if she returns a year or two down the road, i highly doubt she'll be granted an injury protected ranking, since i don't think her absence qualifies as injury related. as far as i'm concerned (and the WTA too, i think) martina has retired. if she seeks to return later on, she will do it from scratch ala jennifer capriati.

Martina has not officially announce her retirement until her contract with Adidas expires. Adidas is force to pay martina until her contract expires or if she retires,so Martina has not officially retired yet. Next year when her contract ends we will hear something official. That's one reason her name is not off the list.

From TennisWeek "Hingis will not make any formal announcement of retirement until here endorsement deals end in the next year. (Companies are contractually abligated to pay her if she is injured but not retired.)"

Thank you sooo much for your replies.

Iroda_Fan : I thought Martina would have multiple year contract with Adidas like 3 or 5 year contract. But your idea just makes sense. I thought Martina or WTA officials have some lingering attachment on her spot in their ranking list.

King Lindsay : Thanks for your reply. I think Martina has retired due to the pain related injury and surgeries for that. But officially,.. I may be wrong about the qualification.

Anyone knows is there any expiration period on protected ranking?

Thanks in advance.

It's not just Adidas but Omega as well. That's what she said in her interview with CNN. She said she is still carrying out promotional activities for sponsors such as Omega and Adidas.

the injury rank remains for two years.
that is that you have two years from the moment the injury rank begins to play your 1st match with the injury rank.
