What would the French be without the American military?

German subjects.

And now back to tennis.

Predict which of the top sixteen seeds will exit the tournament with a ranking at least two places higher her ranking on day 1 of the tournament? (Subtract the 2002 Miami points first)

Umm, and what would the Americans be without the French military?

An English colony.

edit: I just saw the other post. Guess we're on the same page, after all.

I say that the next time some hostilities start in Europe (and you know they will) leave the US out of it. Call France. Let them handle it.

what would the usa be when europeans wouldn't have had a need to explore the world

columbus subjects

come on kim in miami!

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the desert of the truth
To the river so deep
We all end in the ocean
We all start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night

BigTennisFan - You obviously missed the parallel thread to this one. Without France, there wouldn't BE a United States. Without the United States, there might not be a France. What all this French bashing mostly shows is an ignorance of history. The French dragged us (not exactly kicking and screaming) into Vietnam. Big mistake. Now they're suggesting that a more circumspect approach, should we not remember that 50,000 American, and four MILLION Vietnamese lives were lost by choosing war when peace was still possible.

Principled dissent when you think a friend is on the wrong track is a responsibility. If my friend is drunk, should I not try to get her car keys? If she won't give them up, should I get in the car with her?

And I'm picking Elena Bovina to move up two spots.

Your'e right, Volcana. I did miss it initially. But my point still holds. I want the US to stay out of everything.
Just because we have freedom here, why should we risk our lives and fortune to overthrow tyrants so that others can have it? It's not our responsibilty. Also what would they do with liberty and freedom? See? It just doesn't pay to get involved.

After all, since you can't overthrow everyone, who are we to pick and choose who should stay and who should go?

Saddam can't be that bad for Iraq. After all didn't he just get something like 99.9999% of the vote in their last election?

The French once managed to avoid what could have been a little war against another bastard with mustaches back in 1938, they got another war less than two years later instead , and it costed mankind almost 50 millions of lives. The problem should be tackled as early as possible, before it grows into catastrophy..

ys, when Hussein tries to roll over another country (as he did in Kuwait) I'll agree with you. Until then, the Hitler analogy doesn't hold water.

Reason is poor propaganda when opposed by the yammering, unceasing lies of shrewd and evil and self-serving men.

I don't think ys is saying he's hitler, it sounds like ys is saying....

If you let a problem sit there, it will only get bigger & bigger, & someday you will be sorry.

war or not, it's good to deal with it.

No politics here! As far as movement,I agree with Volcana on Bovina, and ys on Dementieva. But I look for Shaughnessy and Zvonareva to move up also.Bartoli looks like she will move up too.My first choice was Schiavone but she is unlikely to make it past the next round.
