Kim has a good thread

Kim can surpass Venus not because she is a better player, but because she plays more tournments. If Venus goes down to the third spot we will defintely see better Williams/Williams matches. However, Kim will still
loss to either Williams in finals. I actually believe that if Cappy gets her
mental toughness thier no reason why her and Lindsey can't pass Kim.
The rankings really should be Serena, Venus, Jennifer, Kim, Justine, and Lindsey. If Lindsey starts serving better she can be behind Jennifer.

i think your right about kim and her playing more tournaments. venus has only played a couple of times this year and kim has played a lot more.

everyone keeps saying it won't be long before kim is the #2 player, she is catching venus, she is the second best player in the world right now. the reason why she is getting closer is because venus isn't playing while kim is. we haven't seen enough of venus this year to know who is the better player.

but it is a good tactic by kim to try and can't venus.

Jennifer before Kim??

Can you tell me why you are saying that?? Jen's results are not as good as Kim's results, it's even a big difference!!!

The rankings are what they are. The only player ranked below Kim I can see climbing over her is Amelie. And that's becasue of how well she was playing before she got hurt last year. But as was said SO often about the WIlliams sisters pre-2000, part of being a champion is being able to play the match. if you're always hurt, you're gonna have trouble winning.

The advantage for Kim in the #2 ranking is that for some GS tourneys, she'll only have to play one Williams.

It's a narrowminded view if you would conclude that Kim earns her third spot because of her larger number of tournaments played. Kim won 6 tournaments over the last year and played another 4 finals and 3 semifinals. Besides that you have to understand that only the best 17 results count. If Kim would have played only 13 matches like Venus or Serena then she would have about 3400-3500 points if you consider the fact that she would play all the grand slams, tiers I's, the championships and some tier II's she played last year. She would still be number three. If you look closer to her results then you would see that 7 out of her best 10 results are results from the last 5 months which clearly indicate that she improved a lot since her shoulder injury. Because of that injury she lacked the needed physical strength to perform well at big tournaments like Wimbledon or the French Open. She could have been already number two if she played a whole year with her current form.
Playing more tournaments needs a lot of physical and mental strength if you want to perform well in most of them, this could also be seen as a certain ability that not every player has. Some players are injury prone, others lack the concentration. Performing well in many tournaments is a quality of people who are great athletes and champions.
Kim certainly deserves the third spot. If some players are afraid to lose their ranking because other players play more tournaments then they have an easy task. Play more tournaments!

The thing to keep in mind is, if you play 32 tournaments, chances are no more than 4 of them will be Slams. Slams are where you get the biggest points, and Kim's points from 2 of those are WAY below her current abilities. Serena may only play 13 events, but 4 of those are Slams and another is Home Depot Championships. Figure Serena's 4 Slams at about 1000 points each. In her other 9 events she would be averaging just over 300 per tournament. Her overall average is about 530 per tournament. That's a lot, but if she had played only Slams she would be averaging 1000 per tournament. So yes, players with more events have a significant advantage in the rankings, but it is not as huge as some would suggest.

You have to answer for Santino, Carlo.
