Kim Clijsters = Australian nationality

Do you believe that the Australian government promised the Clijsters clan massive tax reductions if Kim would decide to adopt the Australian nationality ?

It seems incredible.

yes they did

A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening ear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn.

The Australian government stated a fact. tax rates are lower in OZ than Belgium. They didn't offer to make a special Kim Clijsters tax rate.

Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

Now, With The GST....Income Tax had reduced from 47.5% to around 37.5-40% (for Higher Income)

And I remembered what Kim was saying, at Belgium they apply 62.5% Tax (this is very high)

XXX WRONG!!! The highest income tax rate was 47%, and guess what, it still is 47% even with the GST. BUT what the govt did was raise the amount you had to earn before you paid the top rate. For Kim this wouldn't matter. Coz if you earn over $60,001 then you pay 47% tax - but this is still a MUCH better rate than what she's paying in Belgium at the moment. And our GST (VAT whatever you want to call it) is only at 10%, where I believe it's also closer to 20% in Belgium.

That is because Belgium is European, and for whatever reason, it seems as if Europeans like to give their governments money to take care of them . Aussies seem much more reasonable- they prefer to take care of themselves thank you very much. I think here in the USA it varies. The liberals are IMHO overly trusting of the government (with a country as large as the USA the gov't is vastly inefficient and should be given little money and little responsibility), while the conservatives want to build a huge military monster and screw the rest of the system.

I'm a young girl, an old WTAWorld member.

I'm from Belgium.

Rik Van Looy is a very famous Belgian prof. cyclist (other names are Van Steenbergen, De Vlaeminck, Merckx, Museeuw). Every Belgian knows who Rik Van Looy is.

Almost all families with a "van" are originally from Flanders (a part of Belgium), ex. Beethoven - Van Beethoven : http://www.xs4all.nl/~ademu/Beethoven/
and Dominique Van Roost, a Belgian ex top ten tennis player

"Van" means "from".

I don't really know him either...

Maybe you should've said: "every belgian over 30"?
