Tennis Cancelled due to War?

If a war breaks out [and despite my hopes and prayers, I fear it will], will tennis events be cancelled?

I have a hard time believing if there's major war in Europe and the middle east that players are going to travel to Germany [German Open]; Rome; Paris...?

If a player getting stabbed during a match does not even work to stop that tournament, a war in Iraq will not stop any tournaments either.

Well Germany, Italy, France,... is not England. Besides according to your logic there's a war in America too then so I suppose the players would be safer off in mainland Europe.

If it's a WORLD war, there's war everywhere.

i doubt it. Some of the top girls will be deterred but the challenger girls will be slogging it out as usual.

There is a $10k coming up in Ankara, Turkey in 2 weeks which is going ahead.

Plus there are already around 6 events a year in Israel, including Ramat Hashron and other places which have been targeted by bombs. There are 2 events coming up in the next month.

I doubt we'll see any tournament cancellations, though if the war is still going on, teh 75k in Dubai may not go ahead.

TennisIlove09, umm sure Iraq will counterattack but wouldn't it be easier for them to attack Israel or a place closer. I mean goodness no tennis during the Gulf War or Vietnam , or Kosovo was cancelled. Fed Cup was moved but not cancelled so I really don't see your reasoning of this unless like there is a war in Europe which I think is unlikely.

It's clearer with every day that the UK is not really in Europe. They should actually be kicked out of the European Union, just like Spain.

FWIW, figure skating is facing some of the same problems, although their season ends soon. The World Championships are about to be held in Washington, D.C., probably the #1 terrorism target city in the world. They've already stated that they'll continue with their competition if war breaks out.

A big part of all this is the "shock value." If a huge war broke out somewhere with no warning, enough to shock the world, sports would come to a halt for a while. But with the warning, no one's going to be shocked if it starts, and I believe things will largely continue as before. It's the same as a relative dying suddenly vs. a relative dying after a long wait in which the death is expected -- the reactions are totally different.

When is the skating? I saw banners the other day, and I want to go!

Anyway. Yeah, this thread makes no sense. I mean, America is the country most involved in the war. How come you aren't assuming America will be attacked and those tournaments will be cancelled?

If you don't know, Germany and France don't participate in the war.

And well, frankly I don't expect that there will be war in Germany. At least not until the German Open.
