Women's Tennis Greatest Weapon??

According to an on-going poll on the WTA's website, the question was:
What is the biggest woepon in the women's game today?

a)Clijster's Forehand..............11%
b)Henin's Backhand................50%
c)Serena's Athleticism............24%
d)Venus' Serve.....................15%

so far 12,340 voters have responded.

Well well well, So everyone fears Justine "deadly" backhand huh? No wonder everyone is scared to end up in her bracket LOL.

i find that it's rediculous that they just picked a shot from each of the top 4 players. they should have made it players who have shots that REALLY stand out. they should have taken out Clijsters because many players have as good or better a forehand than her. the rest stay, but change Serena's athletism to power, and throw in Seles and her 2 handed shots, and Lindsay's returns. and others too

I think it depends on what you mean by "weapon." Do you mean the tool that helps them win the most matches? In that case I would say Serena's athleticism. BUT, if you mean the SINGLE most powerful shot in a player's arsenal, whether it is enough to produce wins or not, I would say Venus' serve.

Well, the survey is for fans and not players. If the players were voting, I'm thinking that the poll would look different.

I want my 1500th post to contain the words, "Trout Fishing in America."

Naldo,

you have just touched on the inherent fallacy of polls. Knowing what question to ask and how to phrase it. For my money I would have to say that Serena's serve is the sports biggest weapon. While Venus has a faster serve, Serena routinely serves more aces than Venus. Serena must be doing something right. So here is my vote:

Serena...Serve
Venus ...Serve
Davenport... groundstroke
Mauresmo... backhand
Clijsters....Forehand
Capriati...Groundstroke
Justine........Backhand

The poll is kind of odd lol..for Kim she does have a good forehand..but I think her best asset is her Athleticism. Serena could definatly be the serve too..

If I have to name the biggest weapon for all of the top players I would say:

Serena: Power, serve
Venus: Power, shotmaking ability
Kim: Consistency, speed
Justine: Touch & feel, backhand
Jennifer: Fighting ability, forehand
Lindsay: Groundstrokes in general
Amelie: Netplay, heavy spin
Daniela: Depth in shots
Jelena: Err... lol...
Chanda: Keeps up high pace constantly

Justine will "unleash" that "backhand" and wup azz from "A" to "Z"...!!! And, with such a "deadly weapon", she'll rule womens' tennis for years to come!!!!

you can add power to Jelena Dokic. i know she's suckin BIG TIME at the moment, but she does have power when she's on.

Obviously, you failed to see the "sarcasm" in my post, and that's okay. But, if you really knew me, you know that I'm one of the Sisters biggest fans.!!!! The idea of Henin-Hardenne "backhand" being such a "weapon" is too ridiculous to contemplate. Sure, it is a "beautiful stroke" and does earn her points when well placed and timed. But, to suggest it as a weapon to best the other players is a little "laughable", in my opinion. Now, if the question had to do with her "best" shot, I would certainly agree. At any rate, my first post was merely "satire"!!!

I think you're measuring on the wrong scale.
There were never players that had ONE weapon to best all the other players.
We have to look at the total package really.
If, on a scale from 1 to 10, Serena and Venus' finesse shots are 1 and Steffi's forehand 10, then I'd say Justine's backhand is at least 9!

IMO, Venus's backhand down the line is the most lethal shot in women's tennis. However, I do also feel that Serena's serve is the dominate force of the WTA at the moment. Noone on the womens tour serves like her, the way she places it, and hits it cleanly down the T is outstanding.

Justines backhand is the most beautiful, but IMO it is not lethal like Venus's. However, when Justine is aggressive it is very dangerous as she had shown us at Amelia Island last year.
