Anna Pistolesi - Falling Back?

last year, pistolesi had by far the best season of her life. while she had more than a few early round losses (including almost complete failure at the majors), she cleaned up a lower tier events, and put forth some impressive efforts at a few of the larger ones too. not to mention her wins over jelena dokic, daniela hantuchova, kim clijsters and justine henin-hardenne, among others. however, after a decent start to this year (SF at auckland, had to retire, 3rd round at australian open), she has fallen into the rut. coetzer bashed her in australia, bovina upset her in tokyo, cohen-aloro bounced her from paris, and cara black did the honors at indian wells. her ranking has slipped to #20, and she has 79 more points off this week. so was last year a fluke, or will she be picking it up sometime soon?

She had to retire in at Aukland this year against Yoon-Jeong Cho. Since then she has lost 4 out of 6. I don't remember what the injury was?????

i think she is falling back. i think her injury earlier in the year is what hurt her. but i think even if she didn't get injured she would have fallen back because the young players who had their first year on the tour last year are really starting to make strides (their results don't show it because they have had tough draws and on the couple of the occassions where their draws weren't bad they lost it mental with which they still have a lot to learn but their games have improved).

all i really can think of is the injury or like most of the youngsters who have a good year she could be following it up with a bad year.

It was her knee where she forced to retired at Auckland. Clay is her best surface so, wait and see for how she going this year!

Inspiration is for amateurs

Every player has a letdown. Perhaps injuries are the problem, but she does seem to be lacking the confidence she had in 2002.

If Anna wants it bad enough, she can recapture her results of last year.

Well, she had a good week this week, but still got absolutely pounded on by Clijsters.
