Miami '03 pre-ranking (IW '03 added, '02 Miami off, 18th added)

Well, I THINK this right...

Code:
rk Proj = curr - '02 + 18
-- ---- - ---- - --- - --
01 S Williams 6349 = 6939 - 590 + 00
02 V Williams 4782 = 4994 - 212 + 00
03 Clijsters 4438 = 4451 - 101 + 88
04 Henin-Hardenne 3544 = 3544 - 0 + 00

05 Davenport 2854 = 2854 - 0 + 0
06 Mauresmo 2625 = 2625 - 0 + 0
07 Capriati 2584 = 2910 - 327 + 1
08 Hantuchova 2479 = 2479 - 0 + 0

09 Dokic 2353 = 2353 - 0 + 0
10 Rubin 2270 = 2270 - 0 + 0
11 Myskina 2216 = 2216 - 0 + 0

12 Seles 1830 = 2075 - 245 + 0
13 Schnyder 1713 = 1713 - 0 + 0
14 Maleeva 1624 = 1628 - 36 + 32
15 Daniilidou 1584 = 1593 - 24 + 15
16 Bovina 1530 = 1530 - 0 + 0

03 4438 Clijsters
04 3544 Henin-Hardenne

Lindsay's the player on the move.
Whether she's the top of the first Tier,
or the bottom of the 2nd Tier, we'll find out today.

05 2854 Davenport - Well, we found out.
06 2625 Mauresmo
07 2584 Capriati
08 2479 Hantuchova

Why break here? Because Dani's and Jelena have both been consistent in 2003.
Only Dani's been solid, and Jelena's been awful.
Jelena's played five tournaments this year.
Her overall record?
2-5

This is the Jelena out of the top ten watch

09 2353 Dokic
10 2270 Rubin
11 2216 Myskina

Even seeing Monica ranked this low is weird.
And we have to ask, is she still better than Daniilidou and Bovina?
I doubt that they can catch her at this tournament, but Bovina
had a nice year on clay last year. Won Warsaw, made the Estoril semi.
Monica may not put much distance on her during clay season.
Especially since Monica made the RG semi QF, and Elena went out in the first round

12 1830 Seles
13 1713 Schnyder
14 1624 Maleeva
15 1584 Daniilidou
16 1530 Bovina

Wow, Monica was in the semis of RG?.... I missed that one. J/K!

Actually Monica is A.O.K. - trust me. She only has 213 points and 2 events defending until RG. So, after MIA, add in Family Circle Cup, Bausch&Lomb, Italy, and maybe Poland.... and voila, she's back in the top 8 just in time for RG.

Say what? Of COURSE she is. You've subtracted the Nasdaq numbers from last year, so you are looking at Monica's 13 tournaments compared to Daniilidou's 17 best out of 26, throwing out her 9 worst, and Bovina's 17 best out of 23, throwing out her 6 worst. Throw out Monica's results from Charleston, Stanford, Australian Open, and Doha and her 9 best are STILL more points than either of their 17 best. I'm sorry, but we don't have to ask. It's a dumb question.

You have to answer for Santino, Carlo.

Wow Monica needs to start winning. Did Monica make the semi at RG last year? I thought Venus beat her in the quarters.

I thought that Monica wasn't playing last year due to injury. Or was it Wimbledon?

I don't really care cos I think Monica is in the league where like she said, she just want to have fun. It's not about the slams eventhought that would be nice. I agree with her that it's about having fun.

Something inside tells me that Monica will fulfill her destiny and win another slam before she retires maybe two slams......I have this funny feeling that will happen.

When I think of life, sometimes my response is "Oh Damn!". But I still think of life anyway, "Oh Damn!!!"

I wouldn't say Elena had a great clay court season last year. She doesn't have much to defend.

Warsaw was a crap field where Nagyova was the top seed, and she got a big 116 pts for winning there. The semis of Estoril is nothing special... she got a whole 57 points out of that. She loses 1st round in both those tournies, she'll lose only a bit more than 100 points.

Lena didn't play in any clay tournies (except RG where she lost 1st rd) above Tier IV... so if she just plays to her seeding in Berlin, Rome, Warsaw (Tier II this year), RG... she'll still gain quite a few points.

Thank you all for the correction on Monica's RG. I must have still had 'semi' suck in my head from the sentence about Estoril.

dh - I had to ask the question. You are totally correct about the answer.

Exclamation

I am shocked to learn that NINE of the current top 16 players have NO points at all to defend in Miami! Unbelievable. And interesting! So many mouth-watering opportunies here ...

Poor Jenn... Her first round loss in OZopen 03 really hurted her ranking.... and she is going to have tons of points to defend from now to French Open..... She betta add some tournaments in between which she hasn't played last year to get some points on her ranking....

I hope Chanda and Nastya will both get into Top10 after Miami and kick Jelena out..... they both deserve to be ranked higher than Jelena at the moment!!!! Not that I dislike Jelena, but her current form is sucks and plays like someone ranked out of Top30.....
