Should there be a 5th Slam?

Decided to make a poll on this based on the rumors of Asia gunning for a 5th Slam.

Should there be a 5th Slam (ITF, joint men and women) added to the calendar?

Things to consider:
Where? Asia, or elsewhere?
What part of the year?
Surface?
Length of season?
Players opinions? Publics opinions?

Edit: I cant spell 'calendar', apparently.

I cheer on scrubs.

Re: Should there be a 5th Slam?

Yes, upgrade Indian Wells to Grand Slam in a retroactive way making all of its winners since 2002 Grand Slam champions

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

I don't even know anymore...

I just want a fast indoor season. That maybe culminates in a bigger YEC?

Wozniacki. Stosur. Jankovic. Bouchard. Halep. Muguruza.
Venus. Stephens. Cornet. Hampton. Bencic.

5th Slam will be always a joke Slam, as won't have any historical background. Wta Champonships tournament has been held since 70s but is still struggling for recognition among tennis fans.

Wimbledon 2004 ~ US Open 2006 ~ Australian Open 2008 ~ French Open 2012 and 2014

But could this be something that would change over time? As in, would it become a legitimate slam in 5-15 years?

I like this idea, a fast indoor season. In general, people arent too happy about court homogenization so that may be the scope of the bigger issue.

Re: Should there be a 5th Slam?

No.

This subject has been discussed at least 3 times in the last 2 months since I joined.

It's one of the worst things that could possibly happen to tennis.

I could go into detail and write an essay on the endless reasons why it would be bad, but I have no energy or will

30-40 years. But 5 Slams will downgrade each other, we will have more Slams but the value of each of them will be lower, probably with the exception of Wimbledon

Re: Should there be a 5th Slam?

No, but a while we're on the topic of slam polls, should all 4 slams be on different surfaces? I suppose technically there's a difference between the acrylic at Flushing and the surface at the Australian, but it's still hard court, and favors the same group of players. Should one change--carpet, tile, indoor clay, HarTru...?

Re: Should there be a 5th Slam?

No.

The China Open could HOPE to get to IW/Miami territory, but the weather is going to be an obstacle.

Career Grand Slam in your 20s? Been there done that. Career golden slam your 30s?
There's only 1.
Serena.
